3 tab GAF Timberline. You want GAF rating.
That's what I just put on my house. Also had to replace 20 sheets of plywood. Ouch!!! Total. $5660
$3740, take off old shingles replace with new ones. Ice and water shield, Ridge vent to let the hot air escape from the attic (You need this). And some other stuff.
$1920 for plywood @ $3.00 a square foot.

no no no certianteed ALL THE WAY!!!! arcitechtual shingles, they arent like 3 tab only better. less labor to put on and seal better. Not to mention look way better. They resemble shakes but are made of the same thing as 3 tabs. Thats all i use up here, if a homeowner wants 3-tabs because of cost ussaully ill eat the difference if they will go with them. Ive been roofing for 10 years and i havent seen a better shingle yet. And dont bother going to menards, they wont carry em, youll have to go to a premium lumber yard.
and wow 1920 for 20 sheets of plywood installed???? Thats 96 bucks a sheet I dont know where your located but here in wisconsin we charge by the square and depends how steep and how many layers.

Dave,
I notice you are in MI. I just did my house and new barn with Elk Architectural shingles, black with a tinge of silver. Everyone I spoke with said that they were one of the best out there. I bought mine at Jackson Building Supply in Jackson MI, right off of South 127 (exit 141 off of I-94) and Michigan ave. Beautiful looking on the house and barn. Many colors and styles to choose from, up to 50 year shingles.
I'll see if I can post a picture of the house in my "Members Photo Gallery"
