Some excellent points, justwannabe.
Do a bit of research before you decide on a specific breed. What do you want the dog for. Guarding, hunting, companionship? How much time do you have to spend with the dog? The higher the energy level, the more time you have to spend.

It is gonna be a pup for easy training and gonna be from shelter. My dad will be getting a yearling pup around the same time-he doesnt want to mess with a pup. For those who are wondering and criticizing me...you dont know what I can or cant to. I understand where you are coming from with your assumptions, but believe me, I can handle it. And the chain was 50' with nothing around to get tangled on. Plus they spent less than 2 hours on it per day. LEts just leave it at Ill do it my way and you yours. THanks.

Don't want to read through all the answers, but if you can, get the boxer. Had three of them starting from late 80s. Great dog, brings respect from others and one of the best dogs around the kids.
