Wow, it's been dead in here today. The Coffee from this morning turned into crude. Going out to dinner tonight with the whole family, dads b-day was earlier this week and my sis's 18th was yesterday. We're going to the Islamorada Fish Company at bass pro shops for dinner. Going out with the GF for some drinks afterwards. Didn't get to the yard today, got busy in the garage. Did an oil change, fuel filter, greased, and air filter on my truck today. Washed and waxed the exterior. Vacuumed and detailed the interior. Cleaned the garage up some. Had a busy day, time for some good food, good beer, and good company.
Heidi, hiking sounds relaxing right now. Gonna take the GF hiking in the dunes in the next couple weeks.

No, Bob ain't dead yet, just old. See above.
Gave out almost 600 smoke alarms today in about 5 and a 1/2 hours. Not bad but only half of what we were hoping for. Ironically, there was a fully involved structure fire right up the street about 1/2 a mile as we were doing our smoke alarm give-a-way. This city has had 4 major apartment complex fires, (one left 54 families homeless), and numerous single family dwelling fires in just the last month alone, and yet people apprently think they don't need smoke alarms. Ya can lead a horse to water...
Speakin' of horse water, not bad coffee for a change!
Don't forget to set your clocks back tonite and CHANGE YOUR SMOKE ALARM BATTERIES! If you need a new smoke alarm or batteries for existing alarms, PM me. They're free so you have no excuse not to!

Afternooner!
Been a busy day today. The Troopers and PDs weren't nice to us last night. Came in to a full house and then some.
Passed this on the way to work yesterday....it was -10*F

Firefighting in the cold is an interesting proposition. At least it was in town where you can hook up to a fire hydrant. Most of the rual VFDs haul their water to scene. When I was still volunteering with one we had several burried tanks (20,000gal+) in our district that we kept full so the run to town for water wasn't as bad.
I'll take a slice! New pot of #2 is burnin'

poking head in, see very clean breakroom, dragon AWOL...
heh, imagine two feet of snow and the quarter mile hike with a two and a half hose to the frozen pond for your water source. 'family' run vfd so no one wanted to join when not appreciated (all awards go to family). I am stubborn and tough, but that is a killer hike, not to mention chipping through to get enough water to draft. getting too old to feel sorry for the family on public assistance that can't keep a house clean (fire was garbage over the heating grates) and yeah- took out the batteries from the free smoke detectors for their own use. even the big city (Rochester NY) firemen were getting disillussioned over the wanton waste of their time and efforts in giving out free stuff and education. NO ONE wants to see anyone die! but tough to care when repeated efforts are wasted on the lazy. off rant
hike went so well, we did another trail and then an old failure about walking over a railroad bridge in the 70s. cross that off my list as I even stopped over the water and took pictures!! crossed it twice too! was largest wooden bridge in the world (330 acres of timber used) used for rail service 1853 to when it burned in 1875, replaced by hot riveted steel, still in use today. and yeah- above the river and falls about 1100 feet.
stopped over friend's place, all went out to dinner. glad we still have a little village nearby with the old fashioned main street (even a theatre!) means a lot to me with this coming election.
off to watch Indiana Jones (not Matt!)....might even have a berry flavored Linenkugel beer....

Heidi, I love old structures, especially barns and steam locomotives. It's really cool to admire the technology of the past still working in our world today.
Working on a new avatar, I'll give you a peek in a bit.

you should know by now T rad...
that Chaiwka makes mountain goats look over their shoulder....
yes, I absolutely agree saving one life is worth the five hours you spent on site. I am talking about the same people in the same area with the same fire calls that threaten MY safety to show up. My work (for the nation's firefighters) is soley safety based. that's my passion, I analyze every FF death in the nation. it showed when asked to testify before the budget committee in Washington, D.C.(continuing money for firefighters).
...too shocked to speak, but i should have agreed to the helicopter ride back to emmittsburg, MD. Will regret that for the next 30 years....lucky but still stupid...
Scotty, remember to let me know when the downriggers get dropped off and THANK YOU for trucking them out on your way through NY state. If you don't leave till the 8th, then I should be able to buy you both lunch on the hookup to get the downriggers. timing as always, I know..
get to sleep in an hour and I can't sleep, putting AMBER Alert out for CIN
have to get ahold of REDLEG to send out the All Call..... new pot on and it's fresh for the night shift! Madhat are you online?
Heidi checking the evidence...
