What to do with a classic car?
Heres the deal:
My grandparents have an old cadillac sitting in thier garage. Its been sitting in there every since I can remember (i am 25). Now, they are too old to mess with it, and we have been telling them for years to sell it. They always argued saying that they would never sell it until last night. My dad told them they needed to get rid of it, and they both agreed.
So my dad has "consigned" me to get rid of it.
1970 Cadillac Coupe DeVille
Blue w/White Leather top
Blue interior, all original
472, automatic
low miles
all it needs is a little tranny work, a water pump, and anything else that deteriorates from sitting.
what are ya'lls thoughts? Do people look for these cars all the time becuase I have no clue.

PK,
Try looking at an issue of Hemming's Motor News. It is a magazine that caters to the classic car crowd and has just about every make/model of vehicle in it. They might have a website you could go to as well to see what prices folks are getting for them.
Good luck,
~Rob

PK, pick up a current issue of Classic Car Trader magazine at your local convenience store and see what they are going for.... Might even place an add in there once you find out....

A friend of mine sold a similar red cadillac to a movie company a few years ago. They always buy up gems like that for movies. Sometimes they rent instead from the owners.

I'm assuming since it is a Texas car the body is in good shape?? How has it been stored? Any rust???
A good straight rust free body and frame is much more important than drivetrain stuff. I'm assuming the car is mostly original and all the numbers match???
I'm not sure these are reral high demand cars like muscle cars etc, but someone will have an interest in it for sure if it is very restorable.
You may be able to access the vintage auto trader online????
If the car is drivable, take it or trailer it to a swap meet etc, where those kind of cards are going to be, you may be able to drum up some interest that way or atleast get an idea as to it's value.
When I was a kid, my friends parents had a monster Caddy like that with a 502. That thing was like a Sherman tank.

This thing would not take much to be restored. No rust, all original. I wanna say it has less than 50k miles on it. It was bought by my grandma in 1970 and driven around town for a few years, and thats about it. They cleaned it up, had the interior redone, and put it up in the garage. They used to pull it out and run it every now and then to keep it legged up, but they havent done that in 12 years i bet.
Someone interested in this kind of cars would like it. Very clean, and all original.

That brings back memories!
That looks just like that old 502 powered DeVille that my friends dad used to drive us around in when we were kids. What a beast! I'm sure the fuel economy is stellar.
Nice car.

Ebay is an option. put a good description on the auction and then put your reserve price at what you might consider a reasonable selling price. I've seen lots of things go for prices higher than I would have ever thought was possible. Ebay also gets world wide views, never know when someone may be looking for classic like that.
I am a classic car nut but have an El camino I'm working on now and a Cushman scooter in waiting, but wife's Jimmy motor rebuild comes after my elcamino and before the scooter. If I was to add another car to the list I might be in court soon.
