Went and did it..........
With the fuel cost for commuting running me $150 a week, I just went and bought me a brand new 2008 H-D XL1200C Sportster.
Pics will follow as soon as I pick it up this afternoon.

You know what they say about Sporties and fat women... Just kidding. I have 57K on my Road King and still getting 50mpg (as long as I keep my hand out of it). Gotta warn ya though, Harleys are more mod addictive than our trucks. HD doesn't stand for Harley Davidson, it's Hundred Dollars.... That's what you'll spend on every trip to a Harley shop. Rough guess, I have about $4K in chrome... Not to mention the "go fast" goodies.

I run my HD bagger all the time now, around 50 mpg, but mine only runs good on 91 octane, pretty pricey up here, but still better than the cummin`s at 20 mpg, and $6.80 a gallon for diesel. have fun.

Put the first 50 miles on it yesterday. It's like nothing I've ever ridden. Three rice burners, Kaw and Yamahama enduro types plus a Suzuki Intruder, and five limey, a Triumph and four Nortons, in the past 40 years. I won't even count the POS AMF Sportster I had for a month and returned with numerous electrical and mechanical issues.
The fuel injection, belt drive, and rubber motor mounts make a huge difference. Gobs of torque, 90 + ft lbs. Low reving engine's like a diesel. I am impressed. H-D has come a long way since the days of AMF. Very customer focused.
As soon as the sky clears from the showers, the wife and I are gonna get away and put some miles on it.
Pics will comes as soon as I find the camera.
