You will be appx 4.5 hours from me. Its very nice country there but you better be prepared for snow. They get annihilated there, the lake effect snows alone are huge. You will pretty close to Heidi so on some time off she can show you beautiful upstate NY. You Will not be far from the Niagra falls, it is a must see.

I hope it is everything you wanted.

A couple points of clarification...

The closest airport is small. Don't expect anything larger than a twin engine to land there.

The winter's up there are going to be tough. Most northern states have gone to using brine on the roads. You own a nice, new, pretty truck. You won't after a couple winters in northern PA, start looking for a beater 4WD.

They're not rednecks, they're whoopies. (The W is silent) They don't like being called Whoopies but you're not from around there so don't let that stop you.

They like to fight. They don't need a particular reason, they just like to.

Get used to driving through a bunch of bergs and villes. 2 and 3 lane highways, and have you ever seen a run-away lane?
Just talked with my lil bro, 287 runs north and south right through Wellsboro

Blake, this move for you really reminds me of our stay to northern Japan 06-09. It was cold up there in the winters. Avg'd about 12' of snow a year. That pic up there of the road with walls of snow is pretty much what we had over there. I can feel the cold now just looking at it.

Get some good boots, good gloves, good hat and good jacket. You should probably wear pants too or else you'll need two good hats.

I was thinking the same. Find a beater 4wd you don't care about. That'll take pressure off you to be a good snow&ice driver. While in JP I didn't think twice about going anywhere in my little Isuzu 3.1TD 4wd. Had a couple slips but never any impacts.

Shell is flying us in and out of Elmira NY. Im gonna drive it up cause I want to bring a bunch of stuff with me and it is a wash on cost for flying and shipping (I cover shipping) vs driving (Shell covers flying or driving) and I like the scenic route. We will be flying back and forth for time off.

Yes I do own a pretty new pickup, and will continue to do so. Its staying in Kaplan. Shell is covering rental and fuel cost 100% on 4x4 Pickups. Lil bro is banging around in a 2011 1500 Big Horn that had 60 miles on it when he picked it up.

Ahh. . . Had to zoom in another click. That's State Highway 287. I was talking about Interstate 287. My apologies

That looks to be all 2 lane.

Shell will probably provide you with alot of outerwear, but if they don't hit the Walmart 15 miles east of Wellsboro where you can buy insulated/waterproof coveralls $50 or so...get two, a bunch of long johns and a couple pair of overalls and you're good to go

get some heavy rubber "pak" boots too

Except for the winters, are you talking about Peschie land down there. . . . Or the hoopies up north?

They'll kick your butt too. They don't use bats. They use trees

(I just can't get Ala - - - of my head LOL)

Dont let these guys scare you. Yes it can get cold but rarely stays under 0* for very long. Country is Beautiful especially in the fall.

Last I heard ALL the hotels up that way (might be one or two) were all booked up for a very loooong time.

Up in the mountains, keep your eyes out for Rattlesnakes over the summer/fall time frame. I am roughly about 2 hours from there and make a yearly drive up that way in the fall for the color of the leaves/change.

Maybe Ill get a hold of you in a few months and meet up.

Yeah he's right. It's not as humid, the winters are dryer and don't feel as cold as they are. And the snow piles to maybe the top of hedges. Not what Chaikwa described. . . That's the real north Country. Wellsboro isn't even the gateway

Blake, nothing ominous meant, It is beatiful country there just very very different than what you are used to. I wish you the best in your endeavor.
