Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), a former Army lieutenant colonel, sends THE
WEEKLY STANDARD an email commenting on the Marines' video, and has given
us permission to publish it.


“I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines
urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous
indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies
dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and
condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their
bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.


“All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill.
Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who
were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?


“The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade
level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level
letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress
uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God,
Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine
Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.


“As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut
your mouth, war is hell.”

I absolutely love it!!
What they did (if true) was wrong by my standards but Mogadishu was the first thing that came to my mind.
Allowing themselves to be videotaped doing something like that is just plain stupid.
That kind of conduct is wrong and they deserve to be chewed out.
However, if you are going to show that video than you need to also show the videos of tortured soldiers and decapitations and other real atrocities.

Why is it wrong? Not trying to be argumentative here, but when you look at all the atrocities committed against them, and US, what the Marines allegedly did is mild. Those people aren't even people, they're not even good enough to be called animals. They're the devil himself or maybe even worse. Why do we care what is done to them? It was probably a much needed release, (no pun intended), by those Marines in order to keep their sanity. Allowing themselves to be video taped is what they should be punished for!

 

You can thank the media for smearing this all over the place.

I agree the boys shouldn't have videotaped that.Let the soldiers do the soldiering and the rest of us will take care of the homeland.

The people "appalled" by this type of behavior should be grateful somebody else is willing to clean up the messes in this world, so they can sit around and be "appalled".

 

Too much about nothing......I have seen a LOT worse and frankly I don't care if it hurts their itty bitty hearts.....

These marines should all have their butts kicked for being dumb enough to film it, that is where they went wrong.

 

immature, locker room mentality. yes, UCMJ confined to quarters, work detail and LOR-absolutely. in house stuff, tell em to grow the heck up! when in uniform, act on behalf of the nation.

(still think it is wrong that you can enlist at 17 but not drink until 21)

shouts of "Full Investigation, blah blah" by the media and politicals is just face time. give it a rest, move on.

I mostly agree. They certainly werent hurting anybody (when your dead, your dead).
I also understand the stress and the stress relief they need.

Why do we care what is done to those low life inhuman pieces of filth? Its just that we try to (appear at least) to hold ourselves to a higher standard than those scum.

Video taping it and allowing it to be posted was just plain wrong/stupid. Otherwise, whizz away if it helps ya deal with combat.
