Very cool of them to do this.
I am not much of a Applebees fan ( atleast the one in my town) but I think I will make it a point to eat there a bit more now.

It is cool. The Golden Corral here does it too, I believe.

Personally, I don't go to stuff like that. I feel like I have my hand out for something that I don't really need. I'm all about 'veterans' going, and not knocking anyone who does, they sure deserve it.

I will take a discount at Lowe's or the like, tho. (shrugs)

After pricing tires recently I think a discount at the Tire Rack would be even better

I was on leave this summer back in CA visiting my folks and moving the wife from Germany to CA for my trip back to the Sand Box. While at the local Lowes in Fresno I had totaled up like a grand in product to complete the Storage building for all our household goods. Well after the young lady ran everything up I asked if they gave a mil discount and she said I dont know (nearest mil anything is about 2 hours away). Well she calls the manager over and he looks at my id and says yeep. 10% off lol Then asks me "SGT shouldnt you be shaven?" lol i had a 20 day beard on and he was a ex LT COL. I never ask if they give a discount till they ask for my ID when i pay as i only use a credit card attached to my bank.

Mad, I used to feel like that when I was active duty too. I used to feel like it was there for the old guys to benefit from and that it wasn't something I had earned yet ...

Nowadays, I go to those things whenever I can ... but not for my own gain (although I NEVER turn down a free meal !!). It's a great way to thank some of the Old Dogs that have been there, done that !! I consider them ALL heroes.

It makes their day for another vet to come shake their hand and tell them thanks ... fire up a short conversation, swap some lies and maybe even phone numbers.

Give it a try, bud ... there's wisdom in them thar hills !!

Cheers,
PISTOL

That's not a bad idea, but it would do me little good here. Not gonna be any old guys, just the young studs here.

I agree with what you're saying. When I think of the term 'veteran', I think of someone that has went before me and paved the way. I ain't done nothin, man. Maybe after I have a few bullet holes in me.

Well with the tan, dark hair that was way past regs (didnt cut it for 20 days before leave as an anti terrism tactic LOL)and all I'm sure i looked the part.
I do agree the best ways to get info is to go see the old guys on the vets appriciation events. Gotten so good info and assignments that way.

I've heard of a few places doing something similar to applebees. There is a resturant/sport bar ina a couple of the college town in Indiana called Scotty's Brewhouse, a couple years ago they had a thing going for any military, LEO, FF, or any uniformed gov't employee(DOT, Corrections, DNR), if they showed up at the establishment in uniform they got their meals for free. I thiought it was a nice gesture for local business to do. I think they have three or four resturants total. That promotion went on for about a year I think.

I don't really think of myself as a veteran beacause I didn't serve in combat. Navy Seabee 1985-91. Rich
