Certainly it was self defense........ I am sure the approaching the downed, wounded officer and putting two shots into his head was "immediatly nessacary" to defend his own life.....

I wasn't talking about this specific case; I was speaking in general.

Nothing seems amiss here, but the attitude that it's allowable for cops to take vegenance into their own hands instead of a jury's hand is a dangerous idea and should be watched very closely. On occasion it can be subtly winked at, but it should never be condoned.

Unfortunately, that was pretty GOOD compared to the normal law enforcement hit to miss ratio. If I recall correctly, only 13% of the bullets that are fired by law enforcement hit their intended target (in real life situations...not at the range)...or maybe it's 17%. Whichever is correct, the percentage of hits is very, VERY low.

That's not meant to be critical. If I were running for my life while returning fire I'm sure my percentage of hits would be low too. Anyway, if they hit 61.8% then they were well above average.

Anybody ever notice how much trouble some cops have even unloading a perps gun on shows like cops? I watched two episodes this week where it took 3 guys to figure out how to drop the mag. from some little auto. It kind of made me wonder how much exposure to firearms other than the model which they were issued they have had. Sorry I know that this is off topic.

Street cops hitting a moving target is one thing. This is SWAT shooting at a guy laying under a log (i.e. - the elite shooting at a stationary target). They of all people ought to be able to do better - of course, as you point out, 61% IS better than 13% or 17%.

I have 377 rds 5.56mm within arms distance right now- 12 mags in my gear, 1 in my rifle.

I also have 64 rds 9mm within 1 arms reach and 15 rds od that is in my pistol on my hip.

Then I also have 8 more loaded 5.56mm for a total of 232 rds in a bandolier.

Then if it gets real bad, I have another 12 loaded 5.56mm mags for a total of 348 rds in the office about 50 yds away. Then I have a few cans of ammo for the M4 and 9mm. If I run out, I have 2 knives. lol

Close to 250 of 9mm
The above is within 20 steps when at home and in the house.
Have several clips of each within reach
8 boxes of 20 each of hand loaded 270
4 boxes of 20 each of hand loaded 30-06
These are at the loading bench but I think I could fight my way out and back if it came to that. My wife is fairly good at spray and pray. It would make good cover fire.

I have 13 rounds of .380 FMJ in my front pockets...seven of which are in my Kel-Tec P3AT in one pocket and 6 of which are in a spare mag in the other. If I need any more than that then I'll have to drive home and get it.

My shotshell reloader is in my bedroom, 500 rds of .45 ACP on the bench, 2000 rds of .22LR (won't do much but makes me feel good) next to it, and about 25 slugs on the slug gun's sling!

I'm pretty well protected too
