I'll give you 'proven' and 'reliable'. It's hardly efficient tho, not with all the stopping, chipping flux, getting rid of the spent rod remains, re-rodding, and basically starting all over again. Not when you could just pull a trigger and do the whole joint!

The way we are working out here stick is the only way to go. Beside, you can carry a lot more iron with a good hand and a 3/16 rod than with wire feed.
