the granddaddy of all train horns is th nathan 5 chime, can be heard for miles check out hornblasters.com, 1700 bucks, but worth every penny! http://www.hornblasters.com/products/ i think that one may need a 1/2 inch ball valve to run it!

Nope, it's like running a 1/2" water line off a 1" main. The pressure will increase, but the volume will decrease. Loudness is determined by the volume of air sent through a horn.

SO, it would be better to run a 1/2" line, even though the outlet diameter is only 3/8", because the pressure would increase. A horn sounds louder at 130 psi than it does at 90 psi.

A friend of mine has a set of REAL train horns on his Kenworth. I was waiting for him to get in one day and I heard this train. The funny thing was that they(CN Rail) took the rails up 10-15 years ago. After about 5 minutes in comes my buddy and he said he would have been in sooner but a train got in his way. Then he laughed and gave them a blast. I have never heard anything like it. He was 4 or 5 miles away the first time I heard them. He told me that the ones you can get off e-bay weren't as good or near as loud. He said you need the real deal. He also said that it gets the attention of just about anyone trying to cut him off...

Actually I have seen a 7 Chime but don't now if it was nathan or leslie, think it had a custom manifold to mount 2 more horns.

I mounted my 4 trumpets to the bottom of the bed between wheels and cab. And I mounted the compressor to the frame rail at the rear of the cab. I fabricated brackets for each. I actually mounted the horns using the excess thread on the bolts that mount my auxilary fule tank to the bed. It worked out pretty good.

I have a set of Hornblaster.com conductor special. It is mounted in the bed right against the cab. I am building a small metal box to hide it all except the bugles. Then having it painted to match the bed. They are very loud and have been tons of fun.
