Anyway, I got a chance to test out a new Tundra saturday and I'd have to say it's closely tied to the new GM truck depending on what you want. GM is still going to beat it in fuel economy but the toyota has a lot of extra power for the mpg it gets.. which is still pretty good.

I'm about to buy a new truck too which is why I know all this stuff. Only 2 halftons I'd look at would be the GM trucks and the Tundra.
my dad just got the new tundra. 4 door 2wd TRD with the 5.7/6sp auto/4.30 rear end. first true tank he got ~17. not too shabby at all IMO on a brand new trruck.

Anybody else have some real world MPG figures??

What kind of engine mods can be done to these Tacomas?

Knowing my wife like I do she will also want to put a lift and slightly larger tires on it. I know this affects mileage but if I could get some of it back with engine and/or intake mods I'll do it.

What I just traded in for my MegaCab 2500.

I used to drive a 98 Tacoma with the 3.4L. I had 190K on it and didn't have a single problem. I never got better than 19mpg but it had way more power than a Frontier or ZR2. As far as the newer ones go I believe you'd get about the same mileage. Only downfall is that you'll almost be driving a fullsize, it's not the same as the last generation Taco's. Good luck in your search!

Nice looking truck. What size tires did you have on it? What lift?
