Re:Tobacco
Well lets see. I sale with Phillip Morris. This is the second year for the contract tobacco here at the Ponderosa. I sold 15,000 pounds and it went from 2.09 to 1.89. When it was all said and done I averaged 2.00 a lb. Unfortunately the bank gets it all. Oh well ready to borrow for another year, and I get to keep my truck. One more payment and she is mine for good. YIPPY!!!!!!!!!!!

Re:Tobacco
Learned alot about life on the tobacco farm growing up - most importantly that certain combination of words are almost magical in getting broke stuff working again.

They keep talking about a program buyout here - $8/lb for quota owners & $4/lb for growers. Don't know if the free-market is going to work with all of the imports, though.

It will make alot of people get out of the tobaco business - take the money and run. At 3000 lbs/acre that is a healthy chunk of change to some of these people who have been just scraping by for years.
