Re:Tired of all the talk...
I'm not gonna try and get on a soapbox and preach, and I do agree that the media is running their head a bit much on the war subject. HOWEVER, I will say this;
Any conflict we, as in the military, are involved in requires a lot more than just putting a bunch of boys and girls on an airplane and sending them off to do battle with the evils that exist. For every individual that we put on the front line, we have five to ten more in the rear making sure that he is fed, clothed, has ammo, water, mail, and all the other stuff required for him to do his job. How do I know? Because I'm one of those that's making sure that not only he but also myself, has what's required to do that job, BEFORE it is actually needed.
I came back from Vietnam 33 years ago on convalescent leave. When I got off the plane and entered the lobby at the airport, I had an individual spit in my face and call me a baby killer. I've had that incident replayed time and time again in my mind. I was returning from a war that was unpopular, not only with the people at home, but with the GI's having to fight it. Right or wrong, when I raised my right hand I vowed to fight for what our founding fathers and the present heads of our government felt was right. Our constitution gave us the rights to disagree, to voice our opinions, to make it known that what is going on is not to our likeing.
Like it or not, this GI is going to do the best he can to get the job done and come back home to his family, with or without the support of his fellow Americans. Thirty odd years ago, the support wasn't there. I just pray that the support will be there this time. I've got a bunch of young kids that are depending on that support. Wave the flag, thank them for what they are doing, tell them you care. Remember, it's only your freedom and way of life that they may be giving their life for.
shortround,
i apologize for all those who disrespected you guys ( my heros ) when you came home from nam. anyone who is willing to go to another country or ours if it should ever happen and be willing to put there life on the line because they are asked to do so is a hero to me and should be to all other americans. you guys did what u were told and supposed to do. i hope people act this time around like we did during the gulf war and respect our soldiers for what they are willing to sacrifice. i for one love the military and wish i would have stayed in ( if i could get back in shape id love to go reserve but im really pushing the age limit ) anyway thanks to all who have and will protect and serve this wonderful country GOD BLESS AMERICA HOO RAH ----- scott

I didn't intend to go off on a tizzy. We are dealing with an entirely different kind of military today. For the most part, we have real good kids out there, but there is a small percentage that absolutely chaps my backside with their attitudes. I have heard more excuses and crying in the last week. My own children didn't whine and cry that much the entire time they were growing up.
We've got a bunch of scared kids out there. To me, that's good because they are a heck of a lot more receptive to what you tell them. They will do alright, as long as there is a few of old farts left to nurture them.
One of the good thinks about this is that it is weeding out a bunch of the "basking in the light of my own self importance" pretty boy, recruiting poster idiots. Their micro management abilities are getting them sh**canned at a rapid rate, and they are being replaced with those that not only have the right attitude, but the abilities to do the job.
To show that there is a bit of justice left in the world, one unnamed CWO3, who has been a PITA since his birth, has already PO'ed our brothers in blue so bad, they pulled him from his security duties and shipped his sorry behind to Thule, Greenland for two years, without dependents. I love it.
We've shipped out over 1700 in the last week and it doesn't appear to be slowing down. We appreciate your support and if I sounded a bit Po'ed, I wasn't really.
That's the nice thing about this great country, we can state our opinions. Just remember that opinions are like **** orifices, everyone's got one, and they're all different.
Y'all have a good day and I've got to git. Got a bunch of trucks rolling out in about an hour.

shortround out

Re:Tired of all the talk...
I understand the feelings of do it now and get it over with. One of the things I was trying to point out is "all the stuff we need to do it with is not there and won't be for a few more weeks."
The average grunt can go about three days before he needs to be resupplied. He will need a minimum of five gallons of water(if it ain't hot, then he will need at least that much a day) and that five gallons alone weighs 50 lbs. Add that to the 80 lb ruck he's got on his back.
What I'm trying to say is, getting the troops on the line is a piece of cake. It's little things like enough food, water, uniforms, boots, ammo, bug juice, and socks to support him that takes a while.
I got an e-mail from a friend in Birain (?), they are unloading 40,000 TONS of supplies a day to support the ground troops.
When they get ready to go in, they will, and it will be like the hounds of hell when they do it.

Keep an eye on the weapons inspectors. As long as they are in Iraq, we won't do anything. When they start leaving, you'll know it's going to happen soon. It's a nightmare from a logistics standpoint to get all this off the ground smoothly because Iraq is so far away.
Shortround is right about having to take the time to get our ducks in a row by getting enough gear over there to do the job right.
Another reason for the wait is to ensure we have enough support from the allied nations so that we won't be the only "watchstander on the pier" when the deal is done.
We are not the only nation to benefit from getting rid of bin Laden ... the rest of the world needs to step up to share the load.

I feel a deep connection to those who went before me to defend this nation and wish there was a way to repay them for their sacrifices ... especially the ones who payed the ultimate sacrifice. I got the opportunity to talk to Shortround on the landline a few weeks ago and feel like I have another brother. I'll have a cold one waiting on the pier when you get here !!!

Getting off the box now ...
PISTOL

Re:Tired of all the talk...
Our armed forces have my undying respect, unending prayers and unwaivering support. being 19 and growing up in a peaceful time for the most part i have no clue what war is like or what it feels like to see a loved one go, but i am a firm believer in doing what is right. Being a Bible believing Christian i believe that when God says in Romans that our rulers "do not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer." He means it. I love this country and would die to protect the freedom we have. If I come to a point where i feel like i am needed to fight, i will gladly do so. Anyway, sorry for the sermon, ill shut up now
