Time to vent a little

I am selling my '98 - it's advertised locally 'cause none of y'all wanted a good truck.

Over the weekend, had a bunch of "tire kickers" call and take a look. All but one, want the truck with over $9000.00 of accessories for a bone OEM used lot price. The one last one was a kid that wanted to "take it for a spin" with his buddy - he got kicked out of the garage.

My asking price is below what the dealer has said they're going to put it on the lot for - returned to OEM.

The asking price with all the accessories, I've discounted over $3000.00 below replacement value.

I just got in the house from another one this morning. He wants the front bumper, but doesn't want to pay for it in his offer. I simply told him "go down to any used car lot and find this year of truck with lower mileage and in better shape than the one he just looked at." He said he'll call me later - had to get back to work. He was running around the garage like a kid in the candy store though.

WHY?????? UUUUGGHHHH!!

In case ya didnt know.. Well, youre finding out now... Accessories dont raise the value.. and if anything usually attract nim-wit buyers.

Why not take off all the goodies, return it to stock form, then sell her?

"Nim-wits" - no doubt. There have been a few of them. What's really funny is that the accessories make it stand out from the rest and intensify interest.

It's about 15 hours of work - off the top of my head. I simply don't have the time and none will fit a new truck. Between 14 hour nightshifts, renovations, business dealings, etc., I'm already only geting 3-4 hours sleep a day. Good thing I had yesterday and today off to recooperate.

Your learning how the world works. You may think it's cool to paint your house green, cause you like green and think it looks good. But you narrow your market to only people who like green. Same with vehicles. What looks cool to you may not look cool or interst another.

Watch ebay. Many $5,000 trucks go by with $20,000 worth of add-ons but don't sell. Because it's still a $5000 truck.

Another reason, is if I see a truck all tricked out, especially with performance items, my first thought is someone has been racing or running it hard.

The only performance items are off road shocks and an Amsoil air filter. The rest is comfort and cosmetic.

Thanks for the congrats on the sale.

However, let me be clear - the guy that got kicked out of the garage was (sorry for the members on here) a youngen that had no intention of ever making an offer. They saw the picks in the truck trader and wanted to "take it for a spin" with his buddy. When I mentioned I would be in the passenger seat, their joyriding plans were foiled.

I don't blame you one bit Festus. I have run across this before selling a rig.
