I'm looking at a newer truck. it just seems that with a stick it is a lot cheeper as far as price goes. And i havent driven an auto in any of my cars for a long time now i just feel like i would get bored just mashing the pedel to the floor and not having anything to do with my left foot and right hand.. I hear the TD will need the valves adjusted every now and then. is that right?

Someone has to be able to drive my dumb, hurt butt to the house.

Thumbs up

I have recently went thru the same process you are considering. We have a 27ft travel trailer that we use to camp. We pulled it with a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. I got under 10mpg pulling the trailer, so I talked my wife into trading in the Mercury on a diesel truck. We drove the Ford and the Chevy(I was against the Dodge because the last time I was in a Dodge was 1996 and I thought it was crap). I actually like the Ford better than the Chevy but after some research crossed the Ford out because of ongoing reliability problems. They bought back 500 6.0 Powerstrokes over a couple of years from customers because of various engine problems.

One weekend we were out looking to buy a Duramax Chevy and saw a Dodge on the lot next to the Chevy Dealer, my wife said lets try it out. I drove the Dodge and fell in love. It feels like a proper truck, you sit higher than either the Ford or Chevy and I was really suprised by the power. Long story short, we drove off in the Dodge three hours later and still have a smile on our faces. We pull about 6500lbs and don't even notice it, 14.8 mpg at 65 miles per hour (hand calculated). Get the tow mirrors, they are worth every penny. Hope this helps.

on one of our 1998 12valves we had the valves adjusted at 60k and then again around 150k. Right now there are over 350k miles on it. We might do the valves again between now and 400k. So its not to bad.

exhaust brake and jake brakes operate diffrently but have the same princeaple of giving breaking horsepower to the engine by close off exhaust valves or the exhaust pipe and building back pressure so when your off the throttle and in gear you slow down with more engine breaking power and save your pads. 2500 is a 3/4 ton truck the 3500 is a 1ton avilable with single rear or duel rear wheels. duels may be a more stable on the highway if your towing a heavy load esp a 5th wheel. If you offroad alot though they can less fun. rocks between duel tires is bad.

03-04: 305hp/555tq
04.5-05: 315hp/600tq
06-07:325hp/610tq
6.7l:350hp/650tq

main difference between 2500 and 3500 is mainly the an extra overload spring on the 3500 along with the DRW option.
