Is there such a thing?
A few weeks ago my cousin bought a 2003 GMC 1500 Ext. Cab short box 4x4 Gas ??? Pickup. The dealer told him this truck was the 1500 HD and it said HD on the bill or whatever. Now I am having a hard time believing this is an HD because I have never read anything about these and can't find anything in the manual about an HD. Was the salesman just yanking his chain or does a 1500 HD really exist? I would like to know for sure or prove him wrong!!! I love doing that especially because he didnt buy a Dogde CTD and regrets it every time he drives my truck. Thanks

Well wait, his is an Chevy Silverado and it is definately an extended cab. NOT the crew cab where u can open all 4 doors from outside. His u have to open the front two first u know then the back ones just like our extended cab. So is this truly a HD?

Easy way to tell,,check the tires. Chevy puts passenger tires on the 1500 trucks and E rated tires on the HD with Duramax style wheels.

1500 HD and the regular series 2500 are the same truck - 3/4 ton, 8600 gvw. Only diff is that the 1500 HD comes only in crew cab config.
It ain't a 1/2 truck. But GM wants the masses to think it is.

To my knowledge, you can ONLY get it as a true Crew Cab with 4 fullsize doors.....I would hope they didnt rebadge a extended cab....or sell him something he didnt get.

His is a crew cab correct? My cousins badge doesn't say HD after the 1500.

Re:Is there such a thing?
[sup]why would Chevy make the 1500HD the same as a regular 2500? whats the point?[/sup]
Marketing, pure and simple. The average joe thinks a 3/4 ton truck is a "work truck", and wouldn't be any good for perfect wifey to take to the mall. So, GM rebadges it as a 1500HD, sounds manly , but still a "1/2-tonner", (in name only) and there you have it.

Is this the same configuration that use to say "Big 10" on the side of the beds in the late 70's and then changed to "Heavy Half" in the early 80's?
I have a sales booklette for GM trucks for 1978 and it claims that the "Big 10" has all the same stuff as the 3/4 ton truck except for the brakes.
The booklette implies that the "Big 10" still has 1/2 ton sized brakes.
(Of course, this is info that is now almost 25 years old) :-
It also has a flier in the booklette that introduces GM's "ALL NEW" 6.2L Diesel !

I had a 1978 Big 10 4x4,,,it was all 3/4 ton parts to include the axles and suspension,,just had a smaller engine than the 3/4 ton model, Big 20.
