Thank You Canada
Today, a Canadian Judge ruled against an American deserter. After the 60's & 70's policy of accepting and harboring American draft dodgers it is nice to see our neighbors to the north realizing this war was a necessary evil and that America is conducting itself according to international rules of war.
Thank you Canada.

Being ex military myself I found it odd that this guy would voluntarily join up and then decide that he's not up to the task. Guess he should've thought about that BEFORE signing up! Might be a different story if he was drafted ... but that's a different thread altogether!

Some folks liked being in the "Part-Time" military when all it involved was a weekend a month and two weeks a year "Playing Army" for some extra spending money.
It's only when they were required to serve for real that folks changed their minds.
"Hey,... Waitjustaminute! .......I didn't join up to fight!"

All those that are called up or serving active duty during time of war/conflict, desert the United States and flee to a different country should be put to death. If you have extenuating circumstances, you need to bring them up the chain of command. If they deem you do not have sufficient cause for objecting, you need to stay and do your duty.
If you just leave because you want to, death should come quick.
I'll volunteer to go find them.
This is my opinion and not the opinion of the USMC.

Then you would never see them again, Canada would never send anyone back that is facing the death penalty....

You are correct.
However, I did not say it should go through the courts if they desert. If they take the issue to the command, and if the command says they have to stay, and then they take off, I said death should come quick.
You should be hunted down.

"Marines are about the most peculiar breed of human beings I have ever witnessed. They treat their service as if it was some kind of cult, plastering their emblem on almost everything they own, making themselves up to look like insane fanatics with haircuts so short as to be ungentlemanly, worshipping their Commandant as if he was a god, and making weird animal noises like a band of savages. They'll fight like rabid dogs at the drop of a hat just for the sake of a little action and are the cockiest SOBs I've ever known. Most have the foulest mouths and drink well beyond man's normal limits, but their high spirits and sense of brotherhood set them apart and, generally speaking, of the United States Marines with whom I've come in contact, are the most professional warriors and the finest men I've had the pleasure to meet.
