Texas Highway Patrol.

Three blondes were all applying for the last available position on the Texas Highway Patrol.

The detective conducting the interview looked at the three of them and said,
"So y'all want to be cops, huh?"

The blondes all nodded.

The detective got up, opened a file drawer and pulled out a folder. Sitting back down, he opened it and pulled out a picture, and said,
"To be a detective, you have to be able to detect. You must be able to notice things such as distinguishing features and oddities, such as scars and so forth."

So saying, he stuck the photo in the face of the first blonde and withdrew it after about two seconds.
"Now," he said, "did you notice any distinguishing features about this man?"

The blonde immediately said,

"Yes, I did. He has only one eye!"

The detective shook his head and said,

"Of course he has only one eye in this picture!
It's a profile of his face! You're dismissed!"

The first blonde hung her head and walked out of the
office.

The detective then turned to the second blonde, stuck the photo in her face for two seconds, pulled it back and said,
"What about you? Notice anything unusual or outstanding about this man?"

"Yes! He only has one ear!"

The detective put his head in his hands and exclaimed,
"Didn't you hear what I just told the other lady? This is a profile of the man's face! Of course you can only see one ear!! You're excused too!"

The second blonde sheepishly walked out of the office.

The detective turned his attention to the third and last blonde and said,
"This is probably a waste of time, but..." He flashed the photo in her face for a couple of seconds and withdrew it,saying,

"All right, did you notice anything distinguishing or unusual about this man?"

The blonde said, "I sure did. This man wears contact lenses."

The detective frowned, took another look at the picture
and began looking at some of the papers in the folder.

He looked up at the blonde with a puzzled expression and said,

"You're absolutely right! His bio says he wears contacts! How in the world could you tell that by looking at his picture?"

The blonde rolled her eyes and said, "Well, Helloooo! With only one eye and one ear, he certainly can't wear glasses."

Funny.

My brother and I got pulled over this weekend outside of Victoria by a Texas State Trooper for a light out on the license plate frame. It was late so I'm sure he was just making sure we weren't up to no good. Anyway, I handed him my CHL and told him my 9MM was under the seat and he just shrugged his shoulders and said OK. Got off with a warning on the light and was surprised at the lack of interest in the gun. Made me feel good that I wasn't a threat and cops won't bulldog you on the issue...at least this one didn't. Gotta love Texas.

when i was driving over the road, i broke down up on norther Idaho. the county cop came by to check things out and help me get into town, we started talkin pistols as he was packin a 1911 and he said he did gun smithing on the side. I told him i had one and he said that if I ever needed anything done to it he would hook me up. I told him that I could not carry it in the big truck, he looked at me like "ya right" and he said to hand it over with a smile. Ended up givin him the gun, fixed the truck the next morning, went to Montana to load and he called me the next evening when I was about an hour away from his location. He told me that he was done with the ol girl and we met at a truck stop. he climbed into the truck and showed me what he had done. nice little port job and smoothed out the trigger. cost me $40! YAHOOOO!! He was cool!

I was looking for something with a little more punch than the .38 I usually carried. I heard of a gun shop I hadn't ever been in and stopped by. There was an Indiana State Trooper in there talking to the owner. I tried several automatics and none felt right. When I picked up a Taurus copy of the Colt .45 revolver, it felt like they had copied my hand in my sleep. The Trooper told me then that it's a good weapons. Not much of a rate of fire but it's a real man stopper. He marveled that I keot going into a corner to sight along the barrles of different pistols. I replied that if I got careless with a weapon my dad would probably come up out of the ground and get me. Firearm safety was drilled into my head from the time I could walk.

Is that little gun shop in Mt. Vernon still open. I used to live in Carmi,IL some 20+ years ago. I worked some in Henderson,KY and I would always stop in that gunshop in Mt. Vernon, right on the main highway it was great.

There is one there but I'm not sure where it is. I don't think it's on 4th street (the main road east to west in Mt. Vernon) but it's in with some other sports shops. I've worked in Mt. Vernon for nearly 34 years but I usually puncxh out at work and go home. Most of the folks in town are pretty nice but there are enough with attitudes that I spend my money with people who appreciate, or at least don't annoy, me.

I've heard the gun shop has decent prices but I don't buy enough firearms to know good prices from bad. To me they are just a tool for protection. I've got some remote woods that I'm always finding things like enpty cold capsule packages, empty bottle of starting fluid, empty propane bottle and the one I didn't twig to at first was a pile of Mountain Dew bottles. Meth heads prefer it for the sugar and caffiene buzz. I've also found booby traps on my property so I always am armed on my own property. I've wandered those hills since I was a little kid although I don't remember them being that tall 50 years ago.
