TDR .. 14,871 members???
Interesting.
Had the chance to get on the TDR website using a friend's computer who's a member there. Went to the member section where all the members are listed. Surprise, surprise, I'm still list as a member there even though my membership lapsed almost 2 years ago. Found several former members as well. As suspected, the 14k+ membership appears to be inflated.

That is the case with me too, but they do have a lot of members there regardless. We have some that are inactive as well. I think it's just part of the territory that a certain percentage of members aren't going to participate on any site. I've had some register here and never post. We do have a large percentage that do participate actively though, and that's why we're so busy with only 4000 members. It'll be neat to see how the next year turns out. I think both sites have good info.

I wonder if they have to keep the member's names "active" to keep the in-active/no-longer member's posts viewable on the website. ???

14,871 x $35.00 = $520,485.00. What are they printing that magazine on? Goldleaf? There's serious money to be made on this Internet. Long live free sites like this one.

From what I know ... they keep those members there for archive purposes ... I heard if they delete the member the posts are also 86'd .... so when searching the archive things get lost .... I could be wrong but that is what I was told

RamminOn is correct. Another discussion a while back got into how the database is set up - if you pull the member from the database all of their posts disappear. The member count is just a number pulled from database statistics, basically a count of indexed values, the value being number of members in this case.

Jack probably has a better working knowledge of how it really works. I'm just glad I don't have to try to keep it straight.

Keep up the good work, Jack.

I guess each set of forum software is different. If I delete a member, than it keeps their posts, but changes the poster's status to guest instead of member. Either way, their posts aren't lost. All of the forum software I've worked with handles deleted members this way. Then again, I've never worked with VBulletin so I couldn't tell you how theirs works.

I post and read on both sites and you will see the same questions posted by the same people on both sites. There's not a lot of it but enough to know some of us are doing double duty.

Bob

We had a talk about the differences between the two sites at our meeting yesterday, but seeing how this is a PG-13 site I'll keep that one to myself.

DB
