When my husband quite chewing almost 3 years ago, we went to Costco and stocked up on gum. He was going through a pack of gum a day. He did slip a couple times and went back to chewing, but after about 6 months he wasn't chewing gum so much. And didn't even want to chew anymore. This is a guy that chewed for about 6 years.

A friend of mine quit, after chewing over 10 years. He went out and bought tons of those red hot jaw breaker things. He said it worked like a charm, just quit one day, went on the jawbreakers and never chewed again.

It's really tough, curt, but you can do it. I've dipped for almost 20 years, at least a can a day for 15. Like mentioned above, you have to want to quit. A major thing with addiction to nicotine is habitual. Try to find a replacement for the habit part, such as gum/candy.
Or, you can try the Ramone plan. (just kidding about this, but it really works) Every time that you take a chew when you are trying to quit, this big guy named Ramone comes and fattens your lips.
Good luck!!

I am on the nicotine gum. So far it is working good. The first few days are the toughest, but if you get past the "habit" part then the rest is easier.
I also had to cut back on drinking, because the two go hand-in-hand with me. Overall I feel a heck of a lot better, it is worth it.
