Sturmgewehr 44 **** Assault Rifle

Hey guys, secure your weapons while you are alive or someone will sure to take them when you are dead.

http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs...opstories.html

I don't think she will be getting her Sturmgewehr 44 **** Assault Rifle back.

I hate when people do things like this.

I dont know. For once It almost sounds like this may have a happy ending.
The police may have done her a favor and are simply holding it for her until she figures out what to do with it (she says she may sell it).
I was expecting it to already have been torched but it wasnt.

Yea after reading the article, I understood it that they were going to hold it until she was ready to sell it. Cool piece of history

All I can say is I really hope the old boy registered it prior to 68, because if not, the Feds are going to eat her for lunch........

I really appreciate the police officer's catching this, as it is a piece of history that should be preserved.

Many buy back programs, which are ridiculously named as the police department did not sell the firearms in the first place, take in garbage junkers and give more money to the person than the gun was ever worth, which takes advantage of the program, so having knowledgeable gun people running it is a good thing. I would also hope serial numbers are run and stolen guns are returned to their rightful owners with a condition of securing them properly so they don't get stolen again....

I hope she gets compensation for it and it goes to the right owner for its preservation as an artifact.

Back in the 80's the shop I worked at was a class 3 dealer, so you get used to thinking in terms of how the BATF is going to, how shall we say this delicately?

PROBE you?

That is funny right there. back in 86 I did a small job for an ATF agent in So Cal. He was a pretty cool viet nam vet and had a Buttload of guns, I mean everything. He invited me to the range at their headquarters in San Diego, wheeled out a flat of 9mm and .223 and we shot about a thousand rounds through 10 different guns they had there, mostly Smith auto's and Colt AR/M16 type rifles. It was a lot of fun.

When he was on duty though, I guess he was a real stickler for anything out of place. A real PIA according to one of my dad's old military friends that was in the Sheriff's dept. down there. Nobody liked him.

Strange he and I got along pretty good though and fired a ton of gov't ammo and did some dirt biking before I moved to WA.

Not sure how the BATF will handle this one. Due to the age it might be placed under C&R category. The value alone might be worth registering for transfer.

As a side note, we inherited a Stryker-12 shotgun from a widow lady friend. Since the BATF reclassified this shotgun as a destructive device there was a period for owners to register the weapon without having to pay the tax. This one was never registered so we delivered it to the local BATF office. No questions where asked.

Kind of hard to believe you could deliver a weapon to any government office,
No Questions Asked,
Walk away,
And they do not keep track of you.

This is not the American way.

Funny difference between Canada and US. When we have firearms amnesty programs, the police get VERY angry if you bring firearms to the police station to turn it in. They are super clear, call them and they will gladly come to your house and collect weapons you wish to turn in. A cousin of my wife's found a Luger handgun when another family member passed away. He took it to the local police station to turn it in and they nearly had cardiac arrest.

Yeah, they don't like that around here either, they have a notice on the front entrance saying "No Weapons Allowed".

The new one has the station officer behind bullet proof glass...
