stuck in alamosa, co will have a weekend what to do?

I'm in Alamosa for a class that my company has enrolled me in. I will have nothing to do this weekend (12-13 may). I had to drive a dorf ranger all the way here, 300 miles. My dodge is so far away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone around this area that has any idea's? Thanks!

if I were in Alamosa, I'd head up to our cabin in Creede!

I'd say drive through Creede up to Lake City and just enjoy the scenery

I saw the sign for the dunes when I was coming in, That does sound like fun to go check out. Is there any members in this area?

I would do as C Schomer said one day and then do the Dunes the next day. The Dunes are not far from you at all. They are pretty cool. If you feel lucky in the dorf take the road (portions are deep sand) on the east side towards Mendano Creek. Park and hike up the dunes there. Much less people and more away from it all. If you arent feeling lucky just park at the main lot and prepare for a slog through the sand(it reallt isnt bad) to the actual dunes. Make sure and walk out aways once up it doesnt take long to get away from everyone. Another choice would be to head west to Wolf Creek Pass and Pagosa Springs and then back south east to Chama NM and then up and over I think it is Columbine Pass and come out in Antonito which is just sw of Alamosa (scenic once you get to wolf creek). And yet one more option if you are into SW type artsy stuff head east over to Ft Garland and then south to Taos.

You could go over Slumgullion to Lake City then come back on U.S. 50 thru Gunnison to Hiway 114 and over North Pass back to Alamosa.

I love southern co. My favorite is the conejos river. Go to antonito and head west on 17 and turn toward platoro lake. Great hiking, fishing and just beautiful. Actually the dunes is a little closer and some cool places to hike just north of the dunes in mountains.
