Stolen Corvette found after 37 years
Here is a story that may be of interest to some of you:
January 17, 2006
Los Angeles, California - A Chevrolet Corvette sports car stolen when it was brand new in New York 37 years ago has been found in California and will be returned to its rightful owner.
The 1968 car which vanished from Alan Poster's garage in the borough of Queens on January 22, 1969, was identified as stolen as it was being loaded on to a container ship bound for Sweden last November, US Department of Homeland Security spokesman Mike Fleming said.
The car had recently been bought for $10 000 (about R60 000) by a man in Sweden who was unaware that it had been stolen nearly four decades earlier, Fleming said

Since Poster's insurance at the time did not cover the Corvette's theft and he was never compensated, he is entitled to get it back.
"When the California Highway Patrol contacted him he said it was a miracle. He's very excited about it. He's flying in tomorrow," Fleming said.
He said Poster had since moved to California and had long since gave up hope of seeing the car again.
The Corvette, which was originally painted blue with a matching interior, is now silver with a red interior. It is missing the fuel tank but has a new engine and transmission, Fleming said.
California Highway Patrol officer Joe Zizi said investigators had determined the Swedish man bought the car from a man in Texas, who in turn bought it from someone in New Mexico.
None of them was involved in the original theft or aware it had been stolen, Zizi said.
He said that after the Corvette was found to be a stolen car, detectives in New York were contacted and spent a month sifting through about 10 000 archived stolen car reports to find the original owner. - Reuters

You've got to wonder how the previous owners in Texas and New Mexico ever got that 'Vette registered??? Fake VIN numbers??
Had a good friend that lovingly restored a '63 split window fastback Vette 327/325hp in the late '70's. In the mid 80's it was stolen out of a business parking lot in Providence RI. He ran reward ads in all the major papers for 6 months afterward, but NEVER saw his beloved Vette ever again. He died last year STILL looking for it...

I just saw it on the news UP HERE...not your bike Hoss, the Vette.
63 split window...a friend of mine owned one. It was stolen.
Police found a chop shop and found the entire car in pieces...since he was paid out by his insurance company, they had it and simply sold all the parts...and one lucky guy got them.
