Re:Stereo Upgrade Questions

How bout a set of Alpine Type R components in the front doors driven by an amp. Buddy of mine has them in his Stang and they sound great. Just a little 200 w two channel powering them.

Re:Stereo Upgrade Questions

The alpine stuff especially type R sounds very good. Matt here is what you should do if you haven't figured it out already. Here is a simple system.

Get yourself any head unit with a subwoofer output that you like you will probably have to go with single din.
Get a component set for the doors and dash so you have a driver in the door and a tweeter in the dash. Get a set of 2 ways for the rear like I showed you. Then get a 5 channel amp 4 channels for the doors and 1 channel for the subwoofer. Now get a subwoofer yes a subwoofer but get either (1) 10" sub of your choice or get (1) 8" subwoofer this will give you excellent sound. Now get out there and get this stuff done!!!

Re:Stereo Upgrade Questions

Hey Jaime
Its kinda hard to find a 5 channel amp. Mainly go in even numbers. Unless you go with a surround sound channel amp which is for out of his price range. Just to key you in on some information.

SD03

Re:Stereo Upgrade Questions

Satellite is looking pretty good to me at this moment since I listen to a lot of radio. XM should come in with less static over the FM and with less commercials. I see that I can view the stations “name” while using XM with this unit, that is a feature I miss from my previous Infinity System.
This Deck might be powerful enough to not need an amp, has a lot of black color to match the dash and is inexpensive enough to not promote a break in.

I know you guys are thinking Dang! this dude is all over the place but I just want to do this once and it sure is great getting everyones input.

So once I settle on a speaker brand….

Should I do 6 coax speakers- OR
2 ways in the rear doors, components in the front with tweeters in the dash? Is it ok to spread the tweeters that far away from the door components?

I think I am missing a good “sound fill” in the cab over my old 6 speaker Infinity, just today I drove the wife’s PT Cruiser and she has the Infinity but with no dash speakers the sound fill is similar to my Rams standard system, not that good at all.

Now I realize I don't want just better sound, I want the cab filled and don't want it to "sound" as if its all coming from the doors.

Stick the thing under the rear seat or the center console. Slap an amp or two under the passenger seat--the jack carrier unbolts to make room (if that's where it is on an extended cab). Put in some decent speakers, hook it up, and away you go!

Re:Stereo Upgrade Questions

OK matt good speaker components have the ability to adjust the db of the tweeter to be mounted in the doors or the dash or pillars you can change the sound of them depending on the mount location. That deck and XM is a good combo I just got XM although its not available in canada I found a way around that. That singl10" sub or 8" sub is a good choice to fill the cab. You need a component set in the front and 2 ways in the rear like superoir said 5 channel amps are had to find I have onr its a zapco but your best is to have 2 amps a nice 4 channel and a good 2 channel or mono amp. Try to stick to maybe one theme with the system all alpine components or all JL or pioneer. Personally I would go with your deck choice and use all alpine stuff they have a couple nice small amps that don't take up much room and sound excellent.

Re:Stereo Upgrade Questions

What about the math for Amplifier selection??

Lets say I have one set of speakers that require 2-25W RMS and can peak @ 75W
Another set requiring 5-110W RMS that can peak @ 330W and still yet another set requiring 5-75W RMS that can peak at 225W.

What math formula can I use for amp selection? Is it basically adding up the speakers capabilities for each speaker?
In the above example would I choose an amp that puts out 24 to 420W RMS with a peak of 1260W?

Would it be better to power the smaller speakers with the HU and the remaining 4 with a 4 channel amp?
Re:Stereo Upgrade Questions

I wouldn't worry too much about the peak values, just make the selection based on the RMS power. Try to match the amp somewhat closely with the intended speakers. You're typically better off running, for example, a 70w/ch rms amp into speakers that say they'll handle 75w/ch rms than a 20w/ch rms amp. More power means more volume without clipping, which is signal distortion that will cause the speaker cones to move in ways that they are not designed to, leading to the speakers being damaged.

Re:Stereo Upgrade Questions

Get an amp that is about 75watts per channel and make it a 4 channel amp for the doors. Then get a nice 2 channel or mono amp for the subs.
