speaker wire to RCA question

Howdy yall,

I've got myself a question about wiring my home surround sound. I bought a nice little receiver to plug all of my different home theatre components to, and everything has hooked up quite well, except for my subwoofer. the sub out on the AV receiver is for an RCA style cable, and my subwoofer has the regular 14/2 speaker wire coming out from it. can i splice the two ends of the speaker wire into the RCA jack, then plug it in to the sub out?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
thanks in advance,
Ian from canada

RCA is low voltage, speaker wire is high voltage.

You can buy a converter for RCA to speaker jacks, but ideally i'd say its a great excuse to upgrade your sub!

The RCA plugs/jacks connectors was considered the standard connectors for audio hookups for many years but now you have phone plugs, mini phoneplugs and sub miniature phone plugs added to the mix which of course allows you to make stereo connections with one connector using the appropriate hardware. In your case you need to just match the connector that is provided to you and since it is a bass woofer polarity is not even an issue as it would be with stereo speakers so the answer is yes,use the RCA plug in the RCA jack and strip the wires on the other end to match the speaker connector.
Be careful of perceived authority,go with common sense in this case.Ron G

Does your sub not have an internal amplifier? If not, then no it won't work.
