Spam!

The daily influx of spam into my emails finally got to me and I opened a new Yahoo email account. I have the spam blocker and most spam ended up in the spam box, but quite a few still arrived in my mail.

When I opened the new email account, within an hour I received one spam. How can this happen? Since then I have received 4 others that repeat every few days. Of course I never open any spam. I have spam blocked in every way I can and even have the box ticked so that the only emails that arrive are in my contacts list, so how does the spam still arrive in my inbox?

Any suggestions on how to stop all spam?

Some of the stuff that comes up even though it shouldn't, and even though you have not yet even used the account, may be ads direct from Yahoo!. Google started this nonsense not too long ago as well.

I would if I could, but no Comcast in Mexico. Thanks anyway.

What I would like to do is line those criminals up against the wall.
What is strange is a couple of months ago I got new e-mail accounts myself. One with Yahoo and the other with Microsoft Outlook Email.
Even though I hadn't had a chance to send any out going email by the next day the Yahoo account had spam. I still haven't gotten any spam in the Outlook one.

since you have new email accounts; which means new trackers (ads, sites visited, ect..) try re setting your internet levels of protection again. this is through your computer settings, but you most likely know that already.
please clear your cookies first, then reboot, then reset the settings.

worth a shot ....

Simple, Yahoo is the devil. They sell your addy.

Now, getting one in an hour isn't from that obviously ( unless the spam was directly from Yahoo ) I would bet that there are servers out there running programs sending billions of emails out to every possible combination of email addys for domains such as Gmail and Yahoo. Purely automated, and no real cost to the sender.

That's your answer. The randomized emails that go to addresses that are not valid just get dropped and go nowhere. Really not much you can do about it. Delete them and go on. NEVER click the unsubscribe link. That's another way to gather working addresses.

Stan, make sure you always mark the spam as such on the Yahoo server. Like most folks they use learning software but it doesn't learn if you don't do your part.

Heidi, have internet settings set at highest and cookies set to delete every time I shut down.

Pat, suspect that you are right on the money.

T-rad, I always mark new spam as spam, but it still constantly shows up, but now in the spam file. Unfortunately every now and then an email i want also somehow ends up in the spam file, so need to daily go thru the long list of spam to look for the good stuff and send it to my inbox. Major irritation!

Yes sir, I agree. I know your situation is different working out of the country but I download everything with Outlook. Between Uverse and Outlook I rarely get any spam.

I can send you a link if you really want to put your spam filter, anti-virus and malware programs to the test.
Dang, I tried to come up with a name for a fake website but every name I came up with would have gotten me banned and shot.
