my wife and i were married in durango and spent our honeymoon there back in 2000. rode the durango narrow gauge train that trip. it was very nice. we go to colorado (durango) a couple of times a year. once in the summer and again in the fall when the trees are changing.

If anybody is real hardcore, these guys have an "engineer for a day" program, but it's not cheap.

If you guys should happen to be in central Iowa sometime, the Boone and Scenic Valley has a steam engine they imported from China they do tours with. They go over a bridge over the Des Moines River valley that's about 100 ft. high or so, the old Fort Dodge, Des Moines, and Southern track going NW out of Boone, IA. While you're there you could check out the 70 train a day UP mainline that runs about 1 block south of the BSV depot. There is also a dinner train set up that runs out of Fremont, Nebraska too, but that's all I know about it. They've got brochures at hotels in the area.

The good old Heber Creeper. I have a picture of me and my parents in front of the engine of the Heber Creeper taken on my third birthday. That picture is priceless to me. Thats a fun ride, the scenery is really nice. Should be a good time.
