Someone stole a Cummins for a conversion....

I was at an auction yesterday on the Inoperational line. They had a big Freightliner van (breadtruck) that had been stolen, and was at auction. Someone had stripped the 4 cylinder Cummins and all the necessary parts for a conversion. They got it all, radiator, engine, transmission, even fuel lines. Guess there will be a conversion out there in the Georgia area. Takes all kinds...

4cyl wow... cool. I didn't know they made a 4cyl.

I drove a freightliner MT45 step van for FedEx but alas it had a noisy as anything Benz motor in it. Really fun to drive though and most amazing turning radius ever.

Yep. Cummins 4BTA, or what not. Essentially a 5.9, but with two cylinders chopped off. Same injectors/ stroke/ bore, I think... Very popular for conversions. Good for anything from a Jeep to a Gremlin, and you can use the same aftermarket parts as a 5.9. Then again, I've never heard of a modified one, but I'm sure you can...

We have a new JLG fork truck on the job with a 4 cyl. Cummins. Looks a whole lot like mine. Even turbo-charged! I looked it over pretty good just yesterday. Its made in Brazil. Also a 4 cyl. Cummins in a Genie manlift we had on the job.

Someone stole a 4bt, huh? I guess they got tired of watching eBay like me and figured they could steal a better one. They normally run about 3500-7k for any older vehicle with a 4cyl cummins.

I saw a Jeep or a rock crawler at Muncie this year with a 4BT and twins. Talk about sweet!!

HID: Do you ever see vehicles at the auction that you could buy for someone else? AKA me?

I would be happy if I could buy some of this stuff for myself. Most auctions I go to are dealer only and I am not a dealer. Also I generally am not involved in the actual auction but see the stuff after auction. See, dealers go to the auctions buy cars and then call me to deliver them. Now and then I see stuff that I would have paid twice the auction price to get, but do not have the opportunity.

Hmmm... sounds like some reading on dealers licenses would do me good. Thanks Bill!
