Some friendly advice for the smokers and ex smokers
Back in August, I decided that this week was next week and threw away a 30+ year bad habit. At the beginning of December, I was in to see my doc about something totally different. Long story short, there was a shadow on my left lung, and on Monday, I go in to have part of my left lung removed. The cancer has not spread anywhere else and the prognosis is great.
But if I hadn't had that chest x-ray I'd be walking around rotting from the inside and not knowing it. I have NONE of the symptoms of lung cancer. Zero. The surgeon's office asked how many chest x-rays I had done over the past ten years, and I said "You're looking at it." His advice, which I am herewith passing on is get a chest x-ray done as part of your annual physical. The life you save will be your own.
See, no trite advice about quitting, that's not my style. But if I had known even sooner, i wouldn't be looking at major surgery, and 4 months off work without pay! So get yer piccie taken.
Not posted for sympathy or to trumpet my illness, but just as a public service announcement.

Thanks Greatwhite for the heads up. I started smoking again after quitting 15 years ago. My dad developed lung cancer at age 75 with a tumor the size of a baseball. He smoked for 55 years. He beat the cancer and we had him for 11 more years until he passed this past June of others causes. I wish yu luck. I'm sure things will turn out fine for you. Prayers are with you.

Great advise. My mother passed away two years ago this month from lung cancer. She had no symptoms until it metastisized and she developed a brain tumor. By then she was too far along and only made it for 20 months with chemo.

That is great news ! ( not the lung cancer but that you caught it early enough ) I recently quit dipping Copenhagen after 20 years. I also have a buddy that quit smoking after 20 years at the same time. We both used Chantix and it worked great. I didn't have ANY cravings at all.
Your advice is right on. Quit while you still have the chance to do so. Chantix will help, it is just a matter of doing it.
