SMASHED A DEER today!

Going to work just as the sun is rising I see a small herd of deer(12) running across an open field just to the right of me moving straight for me! I mashed the pedal hoping to get thru the herd before they plowed into the side of me, worked great except for the speedracer one that manged to hit my bumper right where the plate is mounted. Pushed the center of the bumper back about 5 inches and twiked it at both corners! I think one of the others hit my drop ball trailer hitch, found some blood and hair on the end of it! Needless to say he didn't move after the axles took him down the rest of the way. Now I need to convince the wife to let me buy that Ranch hand bumper I have been wanting! Anyway, just had to vent about the deer.

I think he already managed that, not much loin, but quite tender.

I haven't seen a single deer near the road since I got my bumper,
almost 4 years now.

My sister hit a deer recently in her Ferd Fusion. $9500 worth of damage!! Ouch!!!

I asked her if she wanted me to bring her a Ranch Hand to put on her Fusion!!

Course, I haven't seen one since I got my RH. That is fine with me, but if bambi ever pops up......and decides to commit suicide.....hopefully I can just get out the garden hose and wash away blood and fur and go on about my way.

I hit a buck in 1988. $6000.00 worth of damage back then. I did learn there is no deductable when you hit an animal.

I have had some close calls with some mule deer since coming to Wyo.. I don't think the Onki would be much protection against a big one of those or a moose..

Imagine that, I hit 2 or 3 deer on the way home from work this evening. It literally tore a big doe in half. Hurt an eight or ten point buck very badly. I was about 3 miles from the house. SO I came back and got a gun to put the buck out of his misery. By the time I got back the buck was gone.

The truck is pretty messed up. Its gonna need a bumper, grill, hood, maybe a passenger side door, fender, windshield, and whatever else I cant see in the dark LOL.

The buck ended up in the bed of the truck. He didnt stay there long once I got stopped, he hit the ground hard and rolled around for a few minutes while I kept my distance.

Dang! Too bad you smashed it completely. I would want to just nudge it to get it loose. Not ruin too much and have a nice back strap supper.

Not true depending on the carrier and/or state.

Insurance paid for my sister's Ferd Fusion damage....minus her deductible. But, she was also out of pocket on the rental car since she didn't have that coverage.

In Texas, you smack a deer, you are supposed to call Parks and Wildlife. It is illegal to keep a carcass after you smack it. P&W will come pick up deceased, process it and then give the meat to the local food bank... Don't ask how I know, but the Warden was impressed that all I had to show for encounter was a little fur in the Ranch Hand grille guard.....

This was in Texas, don't remember the carrier.....commercial insurace.....have not had to pay deductable when hit by an animal with two different carriers. I had Parks & Wildlife fine a buddy for hitting a deer. Let him keep the rack & cape though.

Trying not to get Political...

What I could never understand is if I have livestock that were to wander out on a main road and get hit, I am liable for the damages because I own and control the livestock.

Yet, the state goes as far as regulating the deer by setting hunting seasons, bag limits, etc. etc. and they claim no liability on vehicles or crops damaged by deer? So, if I had a hunting preserve and regulated who comes in and at what time. Then charged the people to do it who would be liable for the damage caused byone of those deer?

I know there excuse is there wild animals and the fact that you hit it is an "act of god" like a tree falling on your truck. I think that if they regulate them and collect money for hunting licences etc, they should also take some liablity.

I got a spike one moring as I was coming on base. There is a sign telling drivers to watch out for deer, and it says how many deer have been hit by cars. The dang deer almost hit the sign and ran right into my front bumper. I was only going 25-30 mph, and the deer was only stunned. It died shortly there after from trauma by a blunt object to the grape, no one knows quite what happened....
