Scanning slides help

Found some slides in my old Dads stuff that he thought he had lost 40+ years ago. Bought a Wolverine 35 negative and slide scanner ($90 bucks) to look/copy them with. Scanning is a breeze, so is transferring them to computer. My problem is orientation. In the first example I could tell it is reversed by zooming in on the high resolution scan and seeing that the writing on the airplane is reversed. Second example, I can’t tell. Is there an easy way that I am not aware of or program that can determine it for me? Thanks.

The second one is oriented correctly. the left frame on the window is sloping toward the photographer and up, and there is no wing over the top of it. that would make it's location on the driver side. It would have to be the front 'driver side' window.

I really hope I didn't just make a fool of myself!!!!

As far as a program to tell you, I suppose the NSA has something like that for satellite photos but I have never seen anything that could tell you the correct orientation. The slides should be marked though.

Either way, very cool find!!!

Can you see which side of the slide is glossy and which has the emulsion?

If so, find one that scanned correctly, and make sure they all go the same way.

Otherwise, just flip the photo on the computer.

Thanks for the tips! No markings on the slides and I really cant tell which side has more gloss. Need a mag glass maybe. I was hoping there was some easy way to tell after it was scanned esp with outside landscape shots (no refs at all).

I have heard them but never been in one. Guess the military classed them as single engine because Dad was only rated for single engines.
