Re:Safety first!
The first picture could be anywhere in Mexico or Africa. Seen this kind of thing many times. The builders in those countries sedom supply ladders to the laborours when they build a new house (because the ladders get stolen quickly) so the workers resort to cobbling together a ladder from whatever material is available. Very scary to watch them climbing high up on their wobbly contraptions.
The second picture is not Mexico but is probably north of the border.

I have personally seen something similar to #2 around here. Try an extenda boom (a forklift with forks that move out and back) with a sheet of plywood on the forks and then a 10 foot stepladder on the plywood, extended to the extreme end and as high as he could elevate the forks. They said they were being innovative. Company Safety guy, me, said: "B.S. get that thing down before plant safety sees ya and we're all out the gate".

~notthesafetyguyanymoreDave

Re:Safety first!
I think we have all done something goofy when it comes to safety and I am no exception. In my "younger" years and early on in the company, It was a case of whatever it took to get the job done quickly. Once I used a ladder to climb onto a roof, pulled the ladder up and then leaned it (extended all the way) against a steel lamp standard : not unlike the loader trick. Now we just tell the company we need a lift to complete the job.
There are now other priorities.

The saying our division chief had on my ship sums it up pretty well:

There are many old electronic technicians and there are many bold electronic technicians, but there are no old bold electronic technicians.

Insert whatever profession you want for electronic tech.

Re:Safety first!
not at work, thankfully, but I've done the ladder in the backhoe and and th efork lift quite a few times, in the military it's called improvising adapt and overcome at work not allowed can you say ohsa LOL but it does work at home and "down on the farm" lol although with some of the work provided tools I've used doing a job the "safeway" I'd have been better off doing it the unimproved way
