Sad personal Christmas story with a twist.

Festus, I feel your pain. I'm a volunteer FF and as many all over do, we deal with things like this alot. You did your best, don't doubt what you did. Circumstances like that call for abnormal reactions and behaviors from normal people. If you didn't feel anything, then you'd have a problem. Keep talking about it, that's the first step to getting over it. God evidently had a purpose for this young lady that those of us left behind may never know. Keep your chin up, you did an awesome thing when it was required of you.

Thanks for all the kind words ladies and gentleman. It is appreciated. Work offered a to make an appointment with a grief councellor through our employee assistance program. I agreed to the offer. If anything, maybe talking to someone I absolutely do not know will help some more than just family and friends - there are some details that must be edited for them.

Thanks for being a stand up guy and doing what was right. Although others were there, you were the one who cared to put your training to use, you did not give up, and comforted her in a way that someone just standing there could not do.
Unfortunately, in being a caring human being, you also know the pain that sometimes goes along with it. I hope you have a good cry or two and find peace with yourself. But if you don't, go find a post traumatic stress counselor to talk to. They do help, I've used them some in the past.

Thanks Doug. Work offered the service. I did go today. Not that I will never think about it ever again, but the counselor did present an angle on the suffering part that was bugging me that I didn't think of.
Thanks to everyone for your kind words, thoughts and allowing me to speak out loud. My apologies for even mentioning this during what's supposed to be a happy time.

That is good to hear Festus.
No apologies necessary- I think it couldn't have been at a better time.
Just to let you all know, I PM'd Festus about the young woman possibly being a close friend of mine. He assured me it wasn't, but I still had a nagging feeling. So I sent her an email, and after a couple days worrying, she replied to me.
Not to take away from Festus' thread, but just in case anyone was wondering...
