Stay away from the shot in a rifle with a rifled barrel, it will slowly ruin it. That shot was designed for semi auto pistols as snake shot. The little Ruger is a great gun from everything that I have read. I personally do not own one as I still have my Marlin model 60 that I bought when I was 15 (17 years ago). I don't think anyone will go wrong with either gun. Now, my favorite 22 is my Marlin model 39 Golden A lever action. You talk about a fun gun. Is chambered for short, long and long rifle and is considered by most to be the best lever action 22 ever made. Still the same manufacturing as it was back in the late 1800s. Is also deadly accurate even with the open sights.

Yeah PC stuff is nice. But just the Volquartsen target hammer will be good enough and for 33 bucks.
Thanks for the compliments on my tack driver. I need to shoot it more often though.

They are great guns. The SS and plastic stocks are more of an all weather set up. Less rust and maintenance kind of thing. There are other 22's out there that should have greater potential for accuracy as the barrel band isn't what you would say enhances the accuracy.

I bought the "Deluxe Sportster" I think it was called, it doesn't have a barrel band.
Much nicer gun than the standard model, checkered stock etc.
I have no clue if it's actually any more accurate, I've only shot 50 rounds through it or so.
1" groups at 75 yards (with a lot of concentration, the trigger sucks and pulls me down and right)
