I think that Leupold scopes are just as well built as the higher price euro scopes. JMO

my $0.03 is that the vx-11 are just as good as the vx-III but are about 1/2 the cost.

1 more vote for the 7mm STW

As of right now I have a 300 Weatherby with a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10 for all the local big game.

For the antelope and deer I use a 25-06 with a cabelas alaskan Guide 6.5-20
(this season I droped 2 antelope in the same heard at 376yrds)

As for a fun at the range Go pick up a 458 lott. Long waiting list and brass is hard to find.

The wife says I have to many guns so I started buying for the kids. For my sons 2nd birthday I will buy him a 7mm STW.

It nice to get them at cost plus 10%

The big thing is to get into reloading if ya want to get some good shooting in.
Factory ammo is a joke.

Good luck
Rod

I have a husqevarna 30.06. Cool gun. For ringing smaller bells at longer ranges I load a 125 gr bullet. The '06 can hunt anything in North America.

For .308 I have a M14, HOOOOORAH!

Got a Savage 17 bolt action bull barrell with a BSA Sweet 17 scope for the little rodents, a Remington 06 for the larger ones, and a Savage 300 Win Mag bull barrell for the biggest stuff. Got a few lever actions to back those up if need be.

Okay, I like my good old Marlin 1895 Guide Gun shooting premium Garrett Cartridges. The 540 grain hard cast bullet is enough for anything that walks the Earth and will shoot a considerable distance if one is willing to hold over the target. Beyond that I like the .30-06 and the venerable .375H&H call me old school, but I am just not sold on the new super duper Elk Zapper 3000's that seem to appear with regularity these days. I know these cartridges are popular, but they don't kill game any deader than any of the the cartridges that are populating this list.

ear gesplitzen louden boomers

Only thing better than dropping something with a 30-378 wm pushing a .30 150 grain ballistic tip at just a shade under 4K is watching a neophyte split his eyebrow from the recoil of your pencil barreled #2 taper mark V chambered in 378 wm shooting 300 grain rounds. As it states on the box..."designed primarily for the largest most dangerous game such as elephant, Kodiak bear and rhinoceros." Is that too much for whitetail??? Oh well I guess I'll use my little .308 and just cut the same sub MOA ragged hole at 100 yds. with factory loads.

How goes it koogala?

The only people that i know that carry those

are loaded rich, and at twice the powder capacity of a 30.06, that is just A WHOLE LOT of rifle... im lookin for a 300 winnie mag, a 30.378 is just a little too much for south tx game. Even a 7STW would be considerable, but hard to find. Im goin pawn shop raidin as of late...

I have been playing with a 300 rum for the last 3 years and having a blast.I'm shooting the 180 gr nosler partition but I have some sierra 168 hpbt I'm going to work a load up for.If it were me and could hit accuratly out to 500 or 600 yards I would stay with a 30 cal mag round for the energy at those distances.

Before heading out and blasting away at deer at long range try known distance ranges first. When you can keep it within say 6 inches from the x at known distance ranges try unknown distance shots at low contrast targets under field conditions, working towards the same accuracy. Feel free to quit at anytime as the shooting sports don't need more bad examples, which would include wounding animals with shots that you can't reliably make. Shooting skills, sportmanship and ego are all different things, try to keep track of which is which.
