Remington Core-lok SP in 270 or 308...

or the equivalent in Winchester.

What price are you guys paying at your local stores? Lowest here is $15 and highest is $19 a box.

I have looked there. shipping would cover the difference in price. Need to add a few rounds to the pile .

walmart here is 15 a box for both 270 and 308. - JKE

For the 30-06, I plink with remington. Had been around $12 a box. I take Federal Premium hunting. $20 range. Didn't get a deer last year so I'm a little behind on pricing. Looks like I'll carry the same box next year too. I know, use it up and practice what you hunt with. Most shots here though wouldn't be far enuff to notice much grouping difference between the two, 150 yds or less. I use it mostly for penetration performance. My 30-30 an 32 WS is starting to push $14 too.

Red - I sighted in on the Remington and use it for hunting. I know it may not be the "best", but it is decent ammo. our shots here are the same as yours most at less than a 100, few at 200 and almost never at 300...and we have lots of brush and such. That Remington round is pretty tough. I am affraid to try the other "ballistic" tip rounds due to the brush and my groups are pretty good at 100 on the range. - JKE

I make my own, spendy to get setup but worth it. You can tailor the round to the gun.

Never said remington was bad, I know it's accurate. Just cheaper to practice with.

Mark, I contemplate loading now and then. I have so many hobbys as it is though. Finally got my flyrod back on the table for some wrapping last night. That was suppose to be done a loooong time a go. And she said I never made sacrifices....

Red - none implied or taken. I think most men chose to hunt with the high $$ ammo. I am ok with elcheapo

No dear for me either. Turkey is coming up though . Don't know if I will find time for it. - JKE

Do you guys hold a lottery? We do, but I feel we have so many, they should open it to at leats a single kill tag like a deer season. We have cars hit them on the freeway all the time. Not exactly speed bumps.

not real sure. kinda new to the deer thing. we have draw hunts. we have LOTS of deer hunters here. not many being hit by cars. They are out there, but they are getting smarter as pressure goes up.

Do you shoot the core lokt in the 30-30? Do you prefer it to the 308?

Both the .32 and 30-30 will put anything downrange nicely (Win.'94's). Usually snag the green boxes for'em when I catch them on sale. I'll carry either gun when the weather is bad and it's better to have open sights. I also take them for back-up in case my scope or something else gets damged. I have an early Weaver 2.5 x 8 (re-gassed) on my 30-06 (1942 Win. Mod. 70). It's starting to get more ware than I'm happy with. Been thinking about putting together a light calibre, mauser action with a walnut, mannlicher style stock. Gotta finish the flyrod first though.

Four rounds (2 -270/2-7mm) and Four Deer in the freezer. One in neck Jan 29, 270@50yds, two during Christmas week (1 dead center between frt legs 270@100 yds,and 1 behind shoulder 7mm@125yds ) and one around Thankgiving (behind shoulder 7mm@210yds) and I haven't sighted weapons in over a year. Feb 25&26 going on Hog Hunt. Don't think I need to spend any extra time or rounds at the range

Amen! I load everything but shotshells, and I am even thinking about starting that. Do all my rifle on my 2 RCBS single stages and pistol on my Dillon 550 and Lee Pro-1000. I remember once upon a time spending all that money for the inferior factory ammo. Wish I had all that money back! At least I was smart enough to keep the brass! Speaking of, hey, fellow DTR shooters, send me your brass! -Steve

my Father reloads our AA shells. He has a ton of them. I haven't researched rifle reloading. Is it really that much cheaper?

I have all of my brass. Don't really know why I save it...just do. Must be a habbit of picking up the shotshells. - JKE
