The window gets put in place and the flanged nailed off. Once that's done, I can cut back the siding to fit the new trim as right in this picture you will see that the space between the window itself, and the house siding isn't wide enough to fit a 3" piece of window brickmold. The siding has to be carefully cut as to not cut / damage the WRB (the house wrap aka tar paper below), so each piece is individually cut with a multitool making sure nothing is damaged.
The exterior trim is AZEK and it will never rot. The most crucial aspect of working with azek is that you maintain required spacing around it's perimeter, as it expands significantly more than wood ever will, with exposure to heat and / or cold. The gap between the azek and the window / or siding is then filled with a non hardening sealer that allows for the movement. THere is also a flashing (peel and stick) that gets applied over the flanges to the WRB before the outer brickmold trim gets installed. This overlapping barrier helps prevent wind driven rain from entering the home.
The most difficult part for me is convincing people that they have to pay me a decent amount of money to do all of this work. WIth all the flim flam companies out there offering a window installation for $99, it's problematic at times changing peoples thought process as to what is the best for them, vs what is the cheapest. I don't do "replacement windows", as they ultimately fail due to lack of flanges, relying on caulk alone. The window installed here is a new construction type window, as it's flanged from the factory, which ultimately provides a much better product for installation.

My granddaughter Emma Jo, a little back story....My daughter had Emma Jo while a Senior, she dropped out to stay home and mope around about the mess she had gotten herself into, our church gave her great support and we also did, after Emma Jo was born my daughter (Hanna) went back and got a GED and then on to collage, they lived with us for 2 1/2 years and I raised Emma Jo as my own child, Hanna graduated last year and got married to a fine young man with awesome work ethics and morals, they bought a house 8 miles away.
Nana and Papa ( me and the wife) keep Emma Jo at least one day and night every week end, she is my shadow now as much as when she lived with us, spending every moment outside with me, she never misses a feeding and knows more about wildlife and farm animals than most adults I know, it is hard that I don't get to rick her to sleep every night but it's better this way I keep telling myself.
God can answer prayers and this story is proof of that, I am one blessed man.
