Re:portable garages

I have one and love it. $190.00 at Costco. Wind tends to be a problem if it is not properly secured. I had mine weighted with concrete blocks on each side. 70mph wind picked it up like a toy. Concrete block did a number on my car. Glad my car was in it instead of my truck!

I got 6 LARGE dog, corkscrew, tie downs and put them down each side, one at each post. We had very high winds yesterday and didn't phase it. If high wind is predicted without rain, hail, etc. I open up all the sides to let the wind go straight through.

It is very good in keeping out rain, snow and frost, and holds up very well. Mine is about 5 years old. It is only enclosed on 3 sides. I got a tarp for the other end to fully enclose my car while I was on vacation. (Farm country and a feed lot next door = much dust) Mine is 10' X 20' and the truck fits in just right.

HTH Stan

Re:portable garages

I have one of that was custom built to store my boat. I have had it for just over two years and have had no problems with it. The cover is made of a very heavy woven polyefin 20 mil material. The structure is bolted to 6" x 6" pressured treated lumber which is held to the ground by a number of 5/8" by 4 foot long re-bar rods that are driven through the 6" x 6" lumber at opposing angles into the ground. At times we get some fairly strong winds, but it has not moved at all. The only complaint that I have is that in the winter when the temperature goes to freezing then frost will form on the underside of the cover and when the sun comes out water will form and drip on the boat. However, I have remedied that problem by installing a tarp on the underside of roof. I believe this is caused because the floor is crushed limestone and the ground on the westcoast is quite wet because of all the rain.

Re:portable garages

Alk,
That is a nice looking portable. What are the measurements on it and what kind of $$$$$$ ?

Mine isn't near that nice, though not bad. But it was only $190.

Re:portable garages

W 12', L 22', H 10'7"
6 frame arches made of 1 7/8" galvanized tubing
10 mil woven polyolefin cover
$1,706 Can.

I had looked at the Costco shelters which I know are considerably cheaper, but they were too small and in my opinion would not last as long as this one.
Around here a lot of these shelters are used for commercial and industrial use.
