Police can't nab 155 mph motorcyclist

From MSNBC.com
Only thing captured is video of unofficial German record
Updated: 9:16 a.m. ET June 13, 2005BERLIN - A motorcyclist captured on film by German police racing at 155 mph on a road near Berlin has set a new unofficial national record for speeding, Germany's Bild newspaper reported Monday.

Traveling more than twice the speed limit of 62 miles per hour, the motorcycle rider was caught on film in a police radar trap near Bad Freienwalde outside Berlin but authorities don’t know who the speeder was because motorcycles have no front license plates.

“We are not able to identify him,” said Lothar Wiegand, a spokesman for the Brandenburg Transport Ministry in Potsdam.

While German motorists who break speed limits are identified by their license plates in police photos and receive their fines by mail shortly after their infractions, motorcycle riders often escape unpunished

Could very well be and don't try that on this side of the pond. They CAN catch you over here. Check out this story:

Minnesota biker cited for driving 140 mph over limit
SEPTEMBER 22--The below Minnesota speeding ticket should be in a museum someplace. That's because motorcyclist Samuel Tilley, 20, was clocked Saturday afternoon going 205 mph on his Honda. That was 140 mph over the limit on U.S. Highway 61. Tilley was clocked at Indy car speeds by a State Patrol pilot flying overhead, stopwatch in hand. The pilot radioed ahead to a state trooper who pulled Tilley over and issued the reckless driving citation. Tilley, the son of a sheriff's deputy, displaces William Faenza at the top of TSG's speediest driver list. Faenza was nabbed last September when Pennsylvania cops clocked him doing 182 mph in his Lamborghini Diablo.

I got 165 out of my old GSX750R stock. Never got caught. Sold it for a Harley before I lost my life. Good choice I'd think.

A ticket for reckless driving? I thought that much over the speed limit is a federal offense. I guess it matters not what law you break but, who your daddy is. Even more in your favor if your daddy is sworn to enforce the law.
Yeah my clattering Harley doesn't instill the urge to go like a maniac. I guess I'm getting old. That and my daddy isn't in a position to allow me to break the law.

Heh.. If that radar trap had been manned, he'd have been caught. I've seen first hand what the Polizei motorcycle cops can do. Those dudes are awesome.

205 is posible on a well built litter class bike. Not sane but posible on a long flat strech of road.

Ewwwww. All you'd need after that is a grain shovel and a couple of sponges.

It said the speed was calculated with a stopwatch so it wouldn't be hard to be off by 10 mph at those kinds of speeds.
