ehhh Ya know what... some people just don't like the police, this is no different tha someone filing a complaint because they got a ticket...

I am sure that there are other coffee shops that the police can go to.. and I am sure that if he has a call for service the police will be bigger people and do their job to the best of their ability... Why lower themselves to this guys way of thinking...

I could care less if someone doesn't want me in their place of business.. it their right.. that is what makes america so great... our freedom..

You just have to be the bigger person...

We know that, but if somebody wants to be the bright light, they better expect the moths.

I do not understand why anyone is willing to work as a police officer in Portland...

This coffee shop is just a small tip of the iceberg of what goes on there.

Google "Portland police protest" and you will see what I mean.

Yup, reminded me of the rational that was spouted by the rapists and such in our jail.

I sort of agree but the owner didnt say, and it wasnt supported, that the officer was driving any business away. He just didnt want him in there because of what he represents (in the owners mind). He said letting police in his shop "doesnt feel right".

Well said. Still irritates me.

Screw portland. I can't say that on the news site where I saw this, but thank God I'm not a cop there. That store owner is a putz, and so are his customers.

Somebody comes after a cop with a knife, they protest that he got shot. Somebody shoots a cop, the protest that the somebody got shot.

The Chief for once (sort of) stands up for her officers, and gets dismissed.

New chief says they are not going to be law enforcement officers, they are going to be peace keepers...

This is their mayor. http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/i...ams_press.html

I have no problem with his orientation, but that he lied about having an affair with the kid to get elected.

Had he been a cop, the board of standards would likely have revoked his certification for life.

Many decades back when I was a young and wild child there was a bakery in Santa Cruse Ca. that was neutral ground. Drunks, druggies, truckers, bikers, and cops would go in there for some of the best doughnuts and coffee on the planet. Everyone seemed like family, no us and them attitudes, everyone sitting together talking and laughing, no one alienated or despised. The hate and fear was left outside. It was a nice place. I can't say the same about the neighboring county. That is were I learned to hate and distrust cops.

You know what. You just showed how ignorant you are. "Screw Portland"? What a generalization. Just because someone lives in Portland doesn't mean we agree with the shop owner. If you knew the general political climate in Portland and particularly how the City of Portland Police Bureau has killed numerous people with NO recourse, then maybe you could understand why Portland PD and the city's government is viewed with disdain. Google James Chaste.

This site angers me.

And so on and so on and so on. So unless there's something about this James Chaste guy that relates to the smilies, the King James Bible, some kind of Berquist audio files and Confucius, (?), the Geological and Natural History Survey of Minnesota or an Old Dover Hydraulic Elevator at Harris Hall, I guess I'm kinda lost as to how this guy has any relevance to the Portland PD.

I think you mean James Chasse, Had he not chosen to fight with Police he would not have been injured. He may have had a Mental Disorder as well but when somebody is fighting and resisting arrest, Police Officers are NOT qualified to make a Medical Diagnosis as to the suspects mental condition. Looks to me like people in Portland should be upset with the lousy Firefighters/Medical personnel that medically cleared him instead of rushing him to the hospital.

From Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Chasse

Chasse died after a physical confrontation with three Portland and Multnomah County police officers on September 17, 2006. Officers at the scene described Chasse as a homeless person and said that he ran away from them and fought with them.[1] He was beaten and shot with a Taser multiple times. After the beating, Chasse was cleared medically by fire and ambulance personnel. He was then restrained and driven to jail, where nursing staff refused to admit him because of his injuries. The officers were told by jail staff to drive him to a hospital across town. He died en route.

Chasse suffered fractures in 16 of his ribs and had a total of 26 broken bones, as well as a punctured lung.[1][2] The Multnomah County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death to be "accidental".

Sometimes it angers me too. However, when I have gotten into a disagreement with other Members or Admins we have always gotten along after the dust settles with no hard feelings. Hope you can too.
Now here is a thought: If the shop owner was discriminating against gays, blacks, whites or others because it "doesn’t feel right" to let them in (his words) I guarantee there would be some repercussions.

I am very ignorant, according to you Portlandites anyway. Because I am a cop and for no other reason. But I get what you're saying, and I don't much care because I know how much citizens on the West Coast hate their officer, especially Portland and Seattle. I would hate to work there, period.

Yes, SCREW Portland....

I've heard of it, and heard of some other stuff going on down there. I'm sure all the cops are a bunch of thugs right?

BTW, come at me with a knife, and you will get shot.

This site angers me.
Then find one that doesn't...

I don't care if he was brandishing a lollipop, as a cop, if I tell you to stop and you do not, you're going to get it. And I'm going to keep giving it until you're not moving anymore. As a public servant I'm willing to get hurt or killed for the right reasons. A moron is not the right reason and I AM going home at the end of the shift.

Ayup, that's about all that needs to be said...........

Wonder how those that would JUDGE you and your response would react if confronted with the same situation?

At least the ones that lived to tell about it.
