I had the pull starter break on me, then the starter died and the battery. So i ditch the pull starter for now, put in a new starter and a new batter. First ride was at nite the hole time the speed didnt work battery light flashed. When i got to where i was goin turned it of and dead. Today i charged the battery and when i start it it doest flash the speedo with the lights on or not so far,(was only idleing off and on for a while). I took a volt meter and check the following, battery- 12.2-12.3, When running battery is 12.2 solid, when turn the lights on the battery is 11.5, 3 yellow wires goin from stator to regulator 2 of them are 3.3 and the other was 2.5, the 2 red power wires from the regulator that come back to the battery and are suposed to recharge it are 12.2 while runing.

I dont know much about electricty, but i need some help here, I dont know if these are the same numbers it would of have the night i rode it, but i couldnt duplicate the batter light flashing today.
O when i had the charger hooked up the first start the fan came on instantly and the speedo flashed hot, it did that about 5 times then no more, motor was cold cause it was 40 degrees out.
Any help appreciated.

I have it posted on a quad site but no help yet, and some one on here might have some knowledge.

Sounds to me like its not charging. You usaly want to see around 14 volts with it running and it should go up when you give it gas. My cousins 800 Outlander did that to him this past summer on our trip to Colorado. Turned out to be his voltage regulator. His had the exact same symptoms yours does.

I think its the voltage regulator to, but im a little concerned about the voltage coming off the stator. There is three wire that go into the regulator, 2 of them were 3.3 volts and the other was 2.5. That seems weird to me but im no eletonic wizard either. But i thought i should see 13.6 to 14.something on the feed lines to the battery. My quad idles at 1950 if that does any justice.

I would bet it is the rectifier regulator, and I think that it is built into the speedo, If it is you will have to replace the whole speedo.

I know this is the obvious but did you put water in the battery?

I had a brand new battery that "was ready to go" and could not figure out what was wrong with it. Well ended up there was little to know water in the battery.

It had the same exact problems that you are describing.

Just a thought check the obvious first with these things.

I had the same problem on my 800, however the 800 does not have a back up pull start. Turns out that a wire harness was not secured, and was getting "melted" by an exhaust pipe. The dealer replaced the harness, and the stator as a precaution. No more problem. The manual also explains how to set the display for a "test" mode, and it will show the battery voltage.

The battery has water in it. I didnt find any melted wires anywhere. The regulator is its own box mounted sperately from the speedo. I had the regulator replaced in aug 05 under recall. I had to put a speed on because i cracked mine in a roll over and it caused running problems. that was 300$ just did a starter 185$ battery 70$ rebuilt the front rear 400$and i have a broken recoil starter60$, plastic hub broke. I need to find out some how to test each thing and narrow it down to the culpirt because all of the parts that everyone mentions is 150-350$.
