Plumbing question

Replaced the steel plumbing at the cabin with copper. New 1/2 horse shallow well pump. 19' well (cabin is next to a stream). 1 1/4&quot; well with new point. New 40 gal propane water heater. 3/4 copper inlet/outlet to water heater. I didn't thinktoputacheckvalve in the cold supply. I have a 3/4&quot; threaded, gravity operated check valve to put in. Will this function ok on the horizontal section of the supply (runs along the cieling)? I only have a few inches from where the main splits the cold supply/water heater supply, and runs vertically to turn at the cieling. Not much room to cut and clean properly for the solder to stick at the verticle section. Also, I haven't been able to find a spring loaded valve in 3/4&quot; if they make this.<br>Thanks, <br>Don

Re:Plumbing question

I'm not sure of the answer, but here's a forum where you might find someone who can help:<br><br>http://www.selfhelpforums.com/index.php<br><br>There are some folks on here who know various codes pretty well. They've helped me on a couple of electrical code questions.

Re:Plumbing question

Sounds like what you are talking about is a &quot;swing check&quot;. Yes they will work in a horizontal position. Just make sure that the hinge pin is on top and the flow is the right way.<br>Tom

Re:Plumbing question

Part of my business is new water well installations. You would be far better off, imo, to install a check on top of your submersible pump, if that's what you have downhole. If it only hangs 19' this shouldn't be much of a task, and would save yourself the added task of jerking around with all of your new plumbing, and you could concentrate on the important stuff like fishing.

Re:Plumbing question

I agree with Old School except I would install the check valve just ahead of well point. IE as far back as possible in the system.
