Thats MR Hoss to you buddy!
I have the ulitmate self defense pistol...a Leinad .410/.45 double barrel with a 3.5" barrel. I've only shot bird shot in it but it stays loaded with double ought buck. It's a small deringer that is easily conceled but it is a little heavy. Found it at a gun show for $134 new.

Trust me, it can be done. If you don't believe me I'll post a picture.

Or is it more along the lines of "Is that a pistol in your pants, or are you just happy to see me"?

I bought a Springfield XD-45 for my primary carry pistol. Have shot it a bunch and love it!! Mine has the 4" barrel and I have seen the 3" compacts and if I had to conceal completely I would go with one of those, but since I don't have to conceal at all in TN, I won't.
I have heard a lot of good things about the Taurus line. I have a friend who have had several and liked them all, price is good too!! I have another friend who bought a Sig P229 I believe was the model and it was a very nice pistol, but heavier than mine as was my friends .40 cal taurus. At least they felt heavier to me...

I have the XD-40 and I love it except that I am in the process of getting a CCW and I am just not quite fat enough to hid that beast. I would love to trade to a xd compact. Maybe soon.

For personal protection stick to .40 or .45 cal. The glock often gets degraded but has an excellent reputation for reliability. Its relatively snag free and easy to get into action, and much to my dismay, I shoot it very well so it became my weapon of choice merely because I shoot it better than anything else in draw/point/fire practice. Personally I wanted to carry my S&W 629 44 mag 3" but I shoot the Glock better..way better. Try as many options as you can at an indoor range, they may even let you try for free if you agree to purchase from their pro shop when you make your decision. My tests were with the SIG, Glock, HK and Beretta .40 cals and the Colt Combat Commander in .45. I value my life more than owning a 'sexy' gun so I choose to carry the one I shot the best. I own a few of the others but the Glock is it hands down for me. Good luck and please consider joining the NRA before our gov't disarms us all! Kurt
