Perkins 3 Cyl Diesel

Has anyone ever pulled the head off a Perkins 3 cyl? I have all the nuts and bolts off the top, but it won't budge. Do some of the studs go through to the block? What's the best way to break them loose?

Thanks,
CR

Probably so. Mine is a 1961 model Massey Ferguson, but I believe they were used by several different tractor makers.

Thanks for your help,
CR

By the way, did your dual Skyjackers come with the icecicles, or were they extra?

hey, just talked to him, he can't really remember that well

but he says he believes you have to remove all the rocker arms before you can get the head off ........

other than that it's just the head bolts

hope that helps ................ so is it a massey 35, that was his guess

Yes, it's a MF 35 ag model. I have "everything" off the top, nuts, bolts, rocker arms, and it still won't budge. The pics I have from the MF dealer does not show any of the remaining studs going through to the block, but that just about has to be the case.

Good thing this sucker ain't my daily driver!

Thanks for your help,
CR

heads can be nasty to get off sometimes ................ get a big rubber mallet or deadblow hammer and whack her pretty good a few times

I called my dad this morning before he took off to work and asked ........... apperantly it's been more than a couple years as I was in high school when he rebuilt it ............... I graduated in 89 ...............man I feel old today for some reason

Tried the dead blow until I was afraid I was going to bend or dent something. I also used a pry bar in the intake holes to no avail.

Funny how only parts you want to stay tight are the ones that come loose.

It's been a while but I seem to remember that some of those engines had a bolt that was inside the thermostat housing. Also, some had a recess at the back of the head where a couple of bolts were hid.
Don't remember if it was gas or oil burners.

Took the thermostat and front cover off today. No bolts in there.

Tomorrow or Saturday, I'm going to soak the studs down with Liquid Wrench and see if I can figure out a way to unscrew them.

Thanks for your ideas,
