In the words of a great band,
You lie so much you believe yourself
Judge not lest ye be judged yourself
Ive met many people that just down right convince themself that something is true without knowing.

The gassers that get "an extra 50hp from a tuner" folk?
I have a fairly educated gearhead type friend that told me this and how he could just put a hypertech on his F150 with an intake and exhaust to offset the drag from running 37's. I argued for a sec and just said edit it. He's the type that will listen to what a shop tells him over common sense. Like duh, they want to sell you that crap over priced and have you come back for gears in a few months or if not at minimal a transmission soon enough .

BTW: Lots of diesels have cats. Mine does.
I also disdain people who don't believe claims I make when I'm talking about something I know well. Like "I can get an extra 125hp from a hand held tuner on my diesel". And someone says "you're an idiot if you believe that". Kinda makes me want to punch them, at least that thought goes through my mind, even though I usually don't follow through.
The best things are giving off the cuff financial advice then someone trying to rebut, then I tell them what I do for a living... Then they get no more free advice. Blah.
I usually don't talk about much over the top stuff anymore unless I know my audience. I also tend not to try to discredit people unless I know they are lying in malice attempt of some sort.

my cousin tried to tell me tonite his 6.0 gas 2500 hd chevy had a actual LS1 corvette engine in it and that motor only came in a few trucks from the factory, oh it also got between 15 and 20 mpg, i just laughed at him, my other cousin with a 2007 new style chevy 1500 crewcab 4x4 with a 4.8 was there and they were talkin about how there trucks were kinda sluggish til about 2000 rpm's, i said well since neither of your motors make any substantial power they wont "snap" your necks taking off, you got to keep them wound up to make them run, they werent happy when i said there trucks didnt make any power. my cousin with the 6.0 thinks his mass air flow sensor isnt working at all cause he got it wet from sinking the truck in 2 feet of water, mind you the truck will not run without it. since he wont listen to me about doing stuff to the truck, i was going to get him to buy a HP Performance "tune' from my friend robbie but i dont think i will put robbie through that, i told him to just get a ZO6 vette mass air sensor and it would add about 20 horse, and that is true, it actually will, boy he was all for that.
had a old guy tell me at a truck pull that a diesel truck wasnt worth having, i laughed in his face and turned my back and walked away.
i can go all day about some of the stuff ive heard at school from some kids.
some people i just feel bad for cause they are idiots and their parents bred them that way.

some will but very very very few, you unplug a mass on a LS series motor and its dead.
****UPDATE**** my cousin stops by my house wanting performance parts for his truck so i start pricing and then he is like, well those are expensive, i said you got to pay to play, he asks if he can get a 6 stage tuner for his truck, mind you its a 2003 6.0 chevy gas, i laugh and say no, remember its not a duramax, he paid 13,500 for a truck that is MAYBE worth 7,000, now hes mad he dont have any money from his settlement check.
