We had someone over in my neck of the woods set up a video recorder under an outhouse... If I recall correctly when someone saw the camera and called the cops, the police started calling video equipment stores and got lucky- found store that sold it had serial number and credit card record... and the investigation flowed down hill from there, so to speak.
