Our heroes, My hero
He is back. My son has returned after a one year tour of duty in Iraq. Thank God for his safe return.
He got back on Nov. 3. It was a sweet reunion. I don't have to tell you what it meant to my wife and I as a parent, as I am sure it would and means the same to all.
The moment they [the unit] marched into the gym where the reunion/homecoming festivities were held, my heart leapt of joy, yet at the same time I felt a knot of sorrow in my stomach for those that did not return.
He is well, a bit slimer, tired but in good spirits. Becuase we had to get him a new apartment, furnishings, car registration, etc. etc. for a whole new begining, we were so bussy with that during our stay that very little was discusse about his time there. He will get his month leave in Dec., come home and then we will have time for stories. From the little that he said: It is rough there. They saw combat almost on a daily basis.
That is about it.
And please remember, we still have troops there, daily in harms way. Support them in any way you can, it means the world to them sometimes.

Thank him for myself and every one here at DTR, Its takes alot to do what our troops are doing over there. I have many friends and coworkers over there and weather their working or fighting they are still putting their lives at risk for the name of FREEDOM. I know some people have a problem with our actions overseas but those are the people who didn't lose anyone on 9-11-01

What they said. I'm continually amazed that with all the crap the schools, the media, and entertainers feed our kids that there are still young men and women who volunteer to go defend our country with their lives. Tell your son he's a remarkable young man and that everyone is proud of him.

Thanks everyone, the good wishes are much apprecaiated.
I sure will tell him about all the support he and all the other boys and girls in uniform have here. Better yet when he comes home here next month I will show him.
Now looking back, I have to say I would have never tought that my little boy who was up till about 16 or so, timmid, shy, a bit too plump, some would say even a bit geeky, would turn around and become a true warrior. Words are not adequate to say how proud I, we are of him. And honestly not just because he is our son, but rather because he found the resources within hi, to raise to every chalenge and prevail. That is to his credit alone. To me it just prooved what I always kept telling him as a little boy when so many times he was discouraged: "If you put your mind to it and want it bad enough you can do anything and achieve anything." And he did, graduated college, did the ROTC program, was commishioned, and now he has his sight set on becoming an FBI agent. I think he'll make it.
Again, thanks for the good wishes, if there is a lesson here it is:
Love your children, always encourage them, be angry if you have to at what they might do but not at them, and they will make you proud.
