Organized Labor
For all you people who don't care for organized labor I have some questions. Do you think that you would be getting Labor Day off without unions? Do you think that you would be working only 8 hr days? Do you think you could take 12 or 14+ hours daily 6 or 7 days a week? Do you think you would be getting as much per hour as you do now? Would you get overtime pay? Would you get a paid vacation? Would you get holidays off? Would you have any health insurance? Would your employer set up and administrate a retirement plan? Do you think there would be any breaks or lunch times you enjoy now? Does the words "at will hire" mean anything? It means "hire at will- fire at will". In other words you can be fired and your employer is not required to give you a reason. Do you have any type or recourse when you and your employer have a dispute? In case you think this is all made up this is the way things used to be before workers organized. Before anybody flames me, I do realize that there are some people who figured out how to "use" unions that are detrimental to us all and are difficult to remove from employment. Does anybody know where the figures that are used for projects that require "prevailing wage" come from? Yup, you guessed it. Do you think that your one voice will stop congress from voting to eliminate overtime for a lot of us? Even though you may not agree with the union philosophy all of us have benifited from them. As you can see there is strength in numbers.
