They're not born with all the knowledge in the world. You have to help them along. Be patient and train him and he will turn out to be your or his best friend in the world.

licked me to DEATH...buddy and i had rode from Charleston to Raliegh, to NJ, to NY, to PA, to VA, then back to Raleigh. ( i sold my bike in NJ, and we got a free boat in NY)

he misbehaved while we were gone, so the buddy's wife voted the dog (or the husband) OFF THE ISLAND.

so i called a buddy in Charleston, has 10 acres, been wanting a large breed dog, and he wanted him,

so i bought a 1986 honda Accord, stuffed him in the back, and headed home from Raleigh last night..
from 2300 to 0330, he licked my left ear 179 times, and the right one 226.

drove me NUTS.

he's starved for attention.

not my job, just a courier.
the more i deal with him, the more i realize how important training is.
my dogs & wife are very well behaved, they went to obedience school.

?? he smelled your stupid on me (from when i got the tour of your outpost), was why he was licking my shirt, right shoulder was soaked.

i sure do hope this fella can turn him around, he's a gorgeous dog, that picture doesn't do him justice.

He is only 1 year old. He hasn't found his brain yet. We have Whippets, and some of them take 2 years to find their brain. Then it is like a light bulb went on. Keith

So how many licks DOES it take to get to the tootsie roll center?

I'd like to help ya, but I just adopted a 2 year old that acts like a 1 year old, but she's getting better.

our bull mastiff is a year old, ~90lbs, and he listens GREAT.

his new owner came and got him last night, LOVED him.

called him this morning, HATES him.

that is the potential for a great dog, but will be a lot of work.

We had 2 purebred shepherds, one never found his brain, the other, boy was he a great dog. People could come on to the property, get out of the car, but they could not leave if we were not there. One evening we came home and there were 2 Jehovah Witnesses's at the door. He would just sit there and look at them, whenever they would try to move, he would let out a VERY low growl until they moved back to the original position. Apparently there were there for about 2 hours. After that they NEVER came back, it was too funny...

He was probably thanking you for getting him out of wherever he was. It was his way of showing you he was a friend. He's just a pup and a beautiful one at that. He just needs some good love to "smarten" him up.

I always try to be the person my dog thinks I am. Somedays it's a real battle!

Kurt
